New SF proposed stadium is a joke
Here is a link:
http://49ers.com/pressbox/news_detail.php?PRKey=2032 The stadium only has suites on one side and one jumbotron. The stadium is a joke. But at least it will be ready by 2012. |

Don't count on that being the final design by any stretch. Mockups are pretty much never completely on the mark.
I would be shocked if there weren't six bajillion luxury boxes once it's complete. That's a massive source of revenue for stadium owners.

They are also talking about building condos to offset the cost. In one direction from the stadium is our landfill (dump.) The other is the roughest neighborhood in the city. Quindaro on steroids.
The last time the Chiefs were in town we met Big Daddy after the game for beers and missed our ride. We bumped into a cop to ask a good alternate way home. He said that they call people who walk out of the stadium parking lot into the local neighborhood 1 thing... victims. There is currently a small complex of condos now. Doesn't look too attractive to me. A dump, projects and ungodly traffic 10 days a year. The current owners are the worse in the league. I love it. Between the Niners and Raiders (I think they are tied for the 2 worse records in footbal over the past 4 years) being a Chiefs fan is fun. |

I sort of like the design especially the end looking out on the Bay. Putting all the luxury boxes and press boxes on one side seems pretty smart. I would not be the least bit suprised if there ended up being around 200 luxury boxes.

Why is it smart to put all of the suites on one end? Wouldn't you get more premium view suites by putting them on both sides of the stadium. The only stadium I can think of that only has them on one side is GB and that was a remodel. I think they mocked up a stadium as fast as possible because of pressures from the press and the mayor anouncing plans for the olympics. It shows how horrible this ownership group is. They have had approval since '97 and this is all they have come up with so far. And even this isn't targeted until 2012. They are likely to end up in the Silicon Valley or LA. In '97 when Eddie D was campaigning for the new stadium I met him at a local bar. Nice guy. Bought the bar a round of drinks. After chatting with him for a while he sent me a follow-up letter that said I would be at the first of the waiting list for the new stadium. The team is so bad now that waiting list is now smaller than in KC. |
