Is gangsta rap leading to increased crime in the US? - Page 2

This is the title of a project I've been assigned for my Criminology class.

Part of the project allows me to gather opinion from people I know.

What better place to do this than on the Planet?

What say you? Does rap contribute to the rising number of violent crime in the US? Any bearing at all?

Does rap breed deviance?

All opinions welcome. TIA.

A lot of the most famous rappers, like Nas and Jay-Z, came from very tough areas of New York and their work just reflects real life there.

Neither are gangsta rappers. That's why I don't agree with the title/premise of the guy's criminology project. I think a broader approach, looking at all genres of music, would work better.

My opinion is fruitless. I don't listen to gangsta rap. You can only measure the truth by seeking answers from those who do listen to the sh*t.

If gangsta rap promotes violence in it's music, a profound disrespect against authority, and the general population who listen to gangsta rap is just above and below the poverty level- then my hypothesis would be a resounding Yes. But, I don't listen to the music, never want to listen to the music, and I sure the fugg don't consider it music. So, I have no idea.
