Is gangsta rap leading to increased crime in the US?

Part of the project allows me to gather opinion from people I know.

What better place to do this than on the Planet?

What say you? Does rap contribute to the rising number of violent crime in the US? Any bearing at all?

Does rap breed deviance?

i have got to ask. Is there anymore gangsta rap coming out? I mean slim talks about smacking homo's and doing viciton, not gangsta stuff. His stuff is like 3 years old now. Maybe this report should have been done when 2-pac and biggie were at their height, but now when everyone is talking about partying is the wrong time to do this report.

I think it contributes to the anger in America. In as much as ebonics/street slang/rap creating a subculture that others cannot relate to because of the linguistic divide. Churchill once said Britain and American were two countries separated by a common language. The coarseness of the "rap" genre separates it from the "mainstream" of American life.

Then when 2Pac (or someone else) blows someone away, the mainstream says "see, a bunch of thugs". As far as an art form, not even close.

Do you think the Gangsta Rapof the 1990's was a factor in the increase in crime in that era?


Would that change the opinion of anyone here? Even slightly?
