I'd try and support his decision. I wouldn't be happy about it but family is family.

It wouldn't affect my relationship. I don't know what I'd say or do though. It depends on a whole bunch of factors. In the end, I could be very supportive if I believed he was right.

I don't think that such a request would be completely unexpected. I'm sure there would be signs well in advance.
