Any school with the history of Kentucky scares me.
Kentucky always turns it up during tournament time, so it wouldn't surprise me to see KU trying to squeeze out a tight one. I'm betting on it. |

![]() I checked Yahoo and there are five people that have them all right... with OSU, Georgetown, Butler, Florida, and get this... [no pick]. How much would it suck to be one of the five people in the nation on Yahoo brackets to have the first 40 picks correct, but forget to fill out the last two rounds? http://tournament.fantasysports.yahoo.com/men/1110625 |

GETTING INSIDE
Kansas and Kentucky, two of the three winningest programs ever to play the great game of college basketball, first met way back on Dec. 16, 1950. It was a 68-39 Kentucky win for the books. The Wildcats, No. 1 on the all-time wins list with 1,948, holds a 19-5 all-time lead in the series against Kansas, No. 3 with 1,904 wins. But KU has won the last two, including a 27-point shellacking that stands as the worst loss in the Tubby Smith era at UK. Sunday in Chicago, the top-seeded Jayhawks, who shed the first-round problem that knocked them out of the past two NCAA Tournaments before they ever really got started, face ninth-seeded Kentucky in a second-round game. KU beat the Wildcats in January of 2005 and '06 to finally make a bit of headway in the series between the two great programs. Those were regular-season games. Sunday, KU and UK meet for only the second time ever in an NCAA Tournament game. Kentucky beat Kansas in the 1999 Tournament. KU comes into this game on a 12-game winning streak and with a 31-4 record. After hammering Niagara Friday night, losing coach Joe Mihalich said, "We could have just lost to the national champion, I truly believe it." REPLAY: It's tough enough for a 16 seed to have to play a No. 1 under any circumstances. But when the No. 1 has something to prove after going out in the first round of the last two NCAA Tournaments, that makes it even tougher. That's what happened to No. 16 Niagara against No. 1 Kansas Friday night, when the Jayhawks clobbered the lower seed from New York, 107-67, to advance to the second round of the Tournament for a Sunday game against Kentucky. "We heard a lot about last year and the year before that," guard Mario Chalmers said after his 19 points led a balanced KU scoring parade. "We can't do anything about that." Said KU coach Bill Self: "Trust me, we didn't approach this as a No. 1 against No. 16 after what's happened to us the last two years. We put a lot of emphasis and spent a lot of time on the scouting report and really emphasized the game. We said we have to win a two-game tournament and we can't win the second one unless we win the first one." That also spelled disaster for Niagara. KU (31-4) went 13 for 22 from 3-point range and forced 21 turnovers in its biggest offensive show of the year. The Jayhawks went to 19-0 this season when scoring 80 points or more. NOTES, QUOTES —The biggest flaw for Kansas could surface in a tight game at the NCAA Tournament. The Jayhawks are a poor free-throw shooting team. They hit fewer than 60 percent of their free throws in eight games this season and are shooting just 66 percent from the line. The only regulars shooting better than 70 percent from the line are G Mario Chalmers and G Sherron Collins. —Two recent trips allowed Kansas coach Bill Self, an Oklahoma City native, to exorcise some demons. The former Tulsa and Oral Roberts coach directed a victory in the Lloyd Noble Center for the first time when Kansas beat Oklahoma late in the regular season. Then he went to the Ford Center in Oklahoma City and won on the same floor where the Jayhawks were upset by Bucknell in the 2005 NCAA Tournament. LAST POSTSEASON APPEARANCE: First round, 2006 NCAA Tournament, Bradley, L 77-73. MEMORABLE MOMENT: The memories the last two seasons were short and sour. A first-round loss to Bucknell in the 2005 NCAA Tournament was most painful since Kansas took a senior-laden team led by go-to forward Wayne Simien into the event, then suffered what some label as the biggest first-round shocker in NCAA history. QUOTE TO NOTE: "We're becoming a team that can play whatever the game is. (Opponents) may play a funky zone or they may do something that hurts us, but I don't think it will be because we don't have guys that can't grind it out or have guys that can get up and down." — Kansas coach Bill Self. STRATEGY AND PERSONNEL Kansas has relied on an eight-man rotation all season with each of those players considered regulars. In fact, when freshmen Darrell Arthur and Sherron Collins come off the bench, the Jayhawks are more athletic. Foul trouble could become an issue if Kansas continues to reach too much. PLAYER ROTATION: Usual Starters — F Julian Wright, C Sasha Kaun, G Brandon Rush, G Mario Chalmers, G Russell Robinson. Key Subs — F Darrell Arthur, G Sherron Collins, F Darnell Jackson. GAME REVIEW: Kansas 67, Kansas State 61. Kansas 88, Texas 84 (OT). Kansas 107, Niagara 67 (NCAA Tournament West Region first round) GAME PREVIEW: vs. Kentucky, Sunday, March 18 at Chicago (NCAA Tournament West Region second round) KEYS: Kentucky's offense runs through polished post presence Randolph Morris. Kentucky's defense is what left Villanova coach Jay Wright impressed. Balance with explosive scoring potential is what Kansas used to springboard through the Big 12. That same mix should carry the Jayhawks into the Sweet 16. ROSTER REPORT: —G Russell Robinson had 16 points, eight assists, five steals and four rebounds in Friday night's rout of Niagara in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. —G Sherron Collins had 15 points and six assists in just 20 minutes. —F Julian Wright posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. —Kansas is now 74-35 all-time in the NCAA Tournament. —The 13 treys made by KU Friday night marked an NCAA Tournament record for the program. |

At this point everyone scares me... but mostly KU themselves. They have the ability to blow out anybody... and I do mean anybody. They also have the ability to play down to the competition, get lazy and over confident and blow it.
I really believe KU is the best team in the country. Hopefully they'll prove it but until then I take no one lightly. I expect every game to be a dog fight for them. That way I'm pleasantly surprised when they do what they are capable of and put teams away early. |

I never feel comfortable when we play Kentucky. We don't have a 5-19 record against them by coincidence. So as long as we win by a point I'll be happy.
