Chiefs Meet With Otah

Chiefs | Team meets with Otah
Thu, 27 Mar 2008 16:40:13 -0700

Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports the Kansas City Chiefs met with University of Pittsburgh OT Jeff Otah Monday, March 24.

I think the chiefs hope they can grab him in the second, wich is considerable since we pick early in most rounds.

When you're a Michican fan, or a Chiefs fan, there's no downer years. You go in expecting nothing and you're never disappointed.

Besides, Lloyd Carr's finally gone. The only thing I could liken to the sheer joy of that fact would be if Carl had followed Marty out the door in 1998, and all the monkey's were off the Chiefs' backs at one time.

The Rodriguez hiring is going to be interesting. I was talking to my dad last night (he's the Michigan grad...). He's been following the goings on at spring practice in the Ann Arbor papers and apparently the veteran players are having a real hard time adjusting to the change, particularly the offensive linemen. They've alread had one starter leave the team this week, badmouthing the program just a week after he was talking about how great it was now. The impression we have is that things were really, really lax and easy under Carr, and that Rodriguez is working their asses off.

I still don't know how well that style of play's going to work in the Big 10 (my guess is real well, but probably not in '08), but it should be interesting to watch.

Your team is now running the spread option which I hate, I think it kills development for the pro game.

Jesus Christ.

No, I'm not.

I've said on NUMEROUS occasions, that if by some act of God Jake Long is still there at 5, he'd likely be the BPA and you take him.

He's not going to be there, and we're wasting time arguing about it, IMO.

And I'm not belittling his stats. I'm saying that there are people who think that those stats alone qualify him as a Top 5 pick.

I'd venture that most of those people have never sen him play. They also are not considering how his skills or lack thereof will translate to the NFL game.

There's apparently been some concern about recruiting because of that.

I'm fairly familiar with Rodriguez and his tenure at WVU, because my family's in West Virginia, and that's where I grew up, but virtually the only time I could ever watch them play here in the midwest was when they had the Thursday night ESPN game.

Like I said, it'll be interesting to watch. I think the Big 12 will be vulnerable to that style of play, but the recruiting and pro development questions are valid ones. Of course, the offense at Michigan may not be exactly the same as the one at WVU, especially now that Pryor's committed to Ohio State. He just may not have a QB who can handle the kind of stuff Pat White was asked to do. I'm not sure who the QB even is now, actually, with Mallett gone.

To really know if I'd be pissed off about Jake Long going to the Chiefs I'd have to see who else is on the board......odds are he'll be picked before the Chiefs anyway, now if they take Ryan Clady at 5 then I will go nuts.

Now you are lying about my position. My position has always been to throw Croyle out there. However, I'm not going to worry about Croyle at all on draft day. That would be stupid. He can either get it done or not, we have nothing at all invested in him. And frankly, he's done nothing to warrant any consideration at all on draft day. You can draft all the offensive linemen you want, it doesn't mean Croyle won't get hurt. In fact, he probably will.

Most Draft boards have Clady ranked 8-10. What a reach.

Yeah, it's not like there's a big difference in risk between those two scenarios.

Just wondering, what are Long's undesireable and condemning physically traits?

He was born with two left feet and can't walk in a straight line. He ends up walking in small clockwise circles unless he concentrates really hard.

But Dorsey's physical flaws are forgiveable? I wouldn't want to take a guy at #5 who has had leg problems in the past. By you're logic anyway, that is what I should think isn't it?

But I'll be happy with anyone we do or do not take, any scenario, except for Matt Ryan. I think there is talent to be had at QB in later rounds. If we were going to draft one, I personally like Flacco, not b/c of what I've read on him, but b/c of what I saw when I watched him play.

The way I see it, if the defense improves, not only will it be less stress on the offense, but more opportunities for them as well. I can see our O-line being better next year if only by subtraction. Probably not, but I like the possibility of these young guys coming in. I do think McIntosh would be a much better RT, I know he may have been fighting that injury all year, but he did allow something like 7 sacks, and left something to be desired in the run game. Which is kind of our offensive bread and butter right now.
