Raiders to bring in Paul Hackett

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Raiders have discussed bringing in longtime college and NFL coach Paul Hackett in a consultant role. Hackett was last on Jon Gruden's staff in Tampa Bay and worked with Monte Kiffin, the father of Raiders' coach Lane Kiffin there. Hackett, an offensive minded coach, was also the head coach at the University of Pittsburgh and at USC.

They must be desperate.

Side note: Hackett's stint in KC was the hottest 5 years in Chiefs history. Your average record was 11-5. You only missed the playoffs in 1 of those 5 seasons. One of the best records in sports during the Hackett years.

Hackett is and always will be remembered for being an awful play caller and an ignoramus with clock management. (see final 2 minutes of 1997 playoff game Chiefs vs Broncos for dumbassery). how you can defend him coming to the Raiders is beyond me. If he was coming to my team I would be afraid, very afraid.

If you dearly want to delude yourself... you can find a statistic to reinforce said delusion.

This is a classic case.

Heck... I don't know enough about him to defend him. Don't even know how much influence on playcalling he would have as a "consultant." I just looked up his record in KC to see how you guyz did when he was OC. Chiefs were one hot team when he was there it seems.

I'm not a Chiefs fan, I'm a Jets fan. and I watched that playoff game in 1997 and was shocked at how ****ing stupid he and Shcottenheimer were at calling that game in the final minutes. I also saw how ****ing dumb this guy was when he came to the Jets at the urging of brain surgeon Herm Edwards.

I think Al Davis is slowly losing his mind. that's what I think if I look at his record in the past.

'Nother Sidenote: Jets only missed the playoffs once during Hackett's term there. They only played in the postseason 3 times in the 12 years before Hackett signed on, but went to the playoffs in 3 of the 4 years when Hackett was there.

With KC n' NY, he went to the playoffs in 7 of his 9 seasons. He sure seems to have a good record for such a fuggin fuggup.

Heh... I think you should just just go ahead and make him your OC. His track record speaks for it's self!

Best of luck, buddy.

Sounds great! Obviously you have done your homework and you know he is an offensive genius. By all means, hand the man the controls. Do not listen to people who have seen him in action...

Oh yeah sure.... once again some bored writer barfs up some inane speculation about what Al Davis maybe might possibly could sorta kinda do. Hey - run with it! Its fun!

Hackett's "ability" didn't have dick to do with our record then. Those were the years when the Chiefs were all-world on defense. That's where the wins came from.

Looks like the AFC West will look like this:

1. Chargers
2. Broncos
3. Chiefs
5. Raiders
