What the HELL is Clark waiting on?

Okay the league is just moving on without us, what the hell are we waiting on? Cant we just ****ing unload Herms ass now?

Teams are unloading the trash, looking at EVERYONE we have been talking about for months, are we going to sit around in Typical Chiefs fashion and let all the up and coming prospects get snatched up?

I really dont want to go shopping on the used retread lot and come away with guys like Marty, Cowher or some other has been...

This is our chance, the first chance we have had in 20 years to actually build a championship team. It would be nice if we are actually pro-active and not passive about something this serious....

Clark's on the right track here. A GM should be allowed to bring in his own guys. And I think it sends a really good message to prospective GMs that Clark Hunt has stuck true to his word that the GM, not Clark Hunt, would decide who our next coach will be.

Why do people want us to interview coaches without a GM? And why would anyone want to rush the GM decision just to start interviewing coaches?

Yes, it's an unfortunate situation, but it's the right one.
FWIW I wouldn't want them to interview coaches before having a GM in place.

Does a team have to wait for another team to be out of the playoffs before hiring a front offfice guy away from that team?

Maybe thats why Clark is waiting?? Maybe hes waiting on someone in the Colts/Ravens/Tennesee/Pittsburgh/Giants organization??

This is dead on. He's been a man of his word, and portrays the Image to the new GM, that it's gonna be his call. Clark is impressing me a lot so far this off-season.

Yes.

You can get permission to interview a guy who's team is on a bye week, but you cannot hire him until after his team's season has concluded.

You know what zilla. Ever since you've stopped pimping 2-22 Herm, you're starting to look a lot smarter too.

I think you can get permission, but not actually interview them. Is this right? I'm not sure, just seems i remember it that way, but could easily be wrong.

This is an old article, but the rule still applies as written.

For the playoffs after the 2002 season, the N.F.L. adopted a policy allowing assistants from playoff teams to be interviewed before the wild-card round. That way, they would no longer have to wait until after their teams lost, when a job might already be filled.

The policy was later amended: Assistants on teams with a first-round bye can be interviewed for jobs during the week before the first round, and assistants on teams playing in the first round must wait until the week after.

After the divisional round, assistants on teams still alive in the playoffs are not allowed to be interviewed for coaching positions until after their teams are eliminated.

That's not what Clark said in his press conference on 12/15

“I had a chance to speak with Herm this afternoon and I told him I’m very supportive of the job that he’s done to this point and the approach that he’s taken in rebuilding the football team. A decision on his future will be one that we will make in the off-season. It’s something that I expect a new general manager will have input in although the final decision will be mine.”

Heres a really good article on Chris Polian. Sounds like hes being groomed to take over for his Dad...

He has since said that if the new GM wants someone else it would not be a deal breaker. Which basically means that the GM will pick his own guy, and still does not explain why everyone wants to interview coaches before we have a GM.

Let's go back to Clark's press conference announcing the "resignation" of Dictator Carl:

“I had a chance to speak with Herm this afternoon and I told him I’m very supportive of the job that he’s done to this point and the approach that he’s taken in rebuilding the football team. Any good GM will make it a condition of taking the job that he gets to choose the head coach. Clark may be keeping Herm around just to keep the new GMs options open, but in the end the GM will decide, and most likely it won't be Herm.

Just relax and be patient. It will all be ok. Clark isn't stupid, he knows what to do.

People are bitching that Herm hasn't been fired yet, when it makes no difference whatsoever. A new HC won't be named until we hire a GM - period.

Now, if we were rushing out and interviewing every has-been that is currently available, then I'd be worried.
wow...you know everything

This is from Mort's chat this morning......

Shawn (Toronto): Mort, have heard little regarding the Kansas City GM vacancy. Doesn't seem that they are being as aggressive in going after people as Cleveland. Who are the front runners?

Chris Mortensen: (11:08 AM ET ) I just think Clark Hunt, the owner, is more low key. He has had contact with Scott Pioli, selling him on the long-term commitment the Hunt family had with Carl Peterson for 20 years. Hunt also has been aiming for a younger GM - among the names that keeps popping up is Mark Domenik of the Bucs who has ties to the Chiefs. And Hunt is very receptive to convincing Herm Edwards staying on longer as they rebuild with youth
