And we also know that to play defense for a Bill Self team, you have to do it really, really well, or you're not going to play. Now Morningstar has had two seasons (one as a reshirt) to learn how to play Bill Self defense. Releford is still learning, and if all you're going to do is play defense and not contribute offense, it's going to be that much harder to steal minutes from a guy that can score and play defense.

I'm fully confident that Releford could score if given the minutes.

Little... we did see good things, but he's been hurt. Sure, you hope he steals Morningstar's minutes at some point. But he has to find his game legs and, he too, will have to learn Bill Self defense.

I think he'll be fine, and will eventually take a major bulk of Morningstar's minutes.

I'm going on what the scouts and coaches have been saying about him all along. He has the ability to score, but he's not going to go out of the way to try and score. He's not a great jump shooter, and though he's fast with the ball, he doesn't try and create off the dribble in the offense.

He's a defender.

If you need a consistent 8-12 ppg -- like this team will need with all the young players figuring things out on the fly -- you go with Morningstar, not Releford.

I've seen some potential there for more.

He's a defender.

May be true, but I think it's tough to label somebody like him as that so soon.

OK, so when he starts getting exposed on defense on one-on-one situations -- like you say he will -- his 12 ppg will be deemed more important, so he should still get minutes?

Depends what the coach thinks matters more to the team's success-the additional offense that comes from Morningstar or having a weakness on defense. I don't get paid to make those tough decisions.

If I was coach, I'd go with what I thought the team needed most, and I think they need that spacing he gives them more than anything at this point.
