Could Cassel be part of the Vrabel deal?

I understand that. What I am saying is why would the Pats need to trade Vrabel in order to free up cap space in order to trade Cassell for Peppers and have enough space to sign Peppers when unloading Cassell gives them that space in the first place.

I don't think it was about freeing up cap space, but Vrabel and Peppers play/would play the same position in New England, so they freed up the position if this were to happen.
