You can't compare Edwards to Vrabel. One has been in 3 SB's and has rings to show for it while the other hasn't really won any big games.

Plus all this talk about Waters not being a leader is the same for Edwards. He didn't lead shit the last 2 years so maybe I was wrong about the whole Waters thing and they just don't respect any of these players because of the horrible record they had.

I completely understand and respect your take on it. I do think bringing him in as a immediate vet/locker room/field coach could be worth a 5-7. I think 4 or higher would be too much, but I can get behind the thought process. Donnie was brought in for that under Herm/Gun. Was behind that too. This could prove to be equally as futile, or it could spark a completely different frame of mind in the players than they currently have. Waters complaining/Vrabel supporting of the current situation, could be cancer/cure scenerio.

Edwards really doesn't fit bill and off the top of my head I can't think of any FA that could fill that role like Vrabel either.

So we traded for a guy that brings nothing more than Edwards did on the field, but traded for him because he's won a SB?

BFD.

Christ, if leadership was that important, we could have signed a 30-something, declining Ray Lewis, who is 10X the leader Vrabel is and has won a SB as well - got a better player in doing so,and kept that pick.

You're only talking about the risk side of the equation, and not the reward. The risk is obviously greater with any rookie QB taken high (sanchez or stafford or anybody...), but most would argue that the potential reward is also much higher.

Anyway, Sanchez doesn't really fit into what I was talking about. The question I was raising was what the potential reward is, long term, with Cassel himself. And again, I think if you're giving that combination of picks up, you're expecting him to be a star, regardless of what you think about Sanchez or Stafford or anybody else.

That was figurative, butt monkey.

And to answer your question:

I would much rather take a shot at acquiring and developing a possible Tom Brady/John Elway(insert your favorite winning QB here), than settle for a known Matt Cassell.

I guess I should have said "having a cow" or "going through the roof", it probably would have made the joke more obvious. My bad.

Cmon OTW. They signed him to bring leadership to the locker room and because he is a winner that brings respect. Also Vrabel had a good season in 2007 but was hurt last year so maybe he has 1-2 good to solid seasons left and also helps the D with leadership and the 3-4 scheme.

Like I said I am good with this as long as the pick is low.

Vrabel was a first team All Pro the year before last. This past season, he played most of the year with an injury and didn't have Thomas (injured), Seau (retired) or Colvin (gone) to help him for much of the season. What he did have was two rookies playing big minutes (Mayo, Guyton) and opposing teams keying on him since he was the only OLB capable of getting to the QB.

I'm sure Edwards is exactly the same, though.
