BFD.

Christ, if leadership was that important, we could have signed a 30-something, declining Ray Lewis, who is 10X the leader Vrabel is and has won a SB as well - got a better player in doing so,and kept that pick.

*Not advocating signing Lewis, using him to make a point.
IMO vrabel can actually tackle where donnie lately hasnt so much

I think what you're missing is that they're completely different players. Edwards is an undersized coverage linebacker that plays inside in a 3-4, and we've already got one of those in Derrick Johnson. Vrabel is physically much bigger than Edwards (he's 2 inches taller and probably 25 pounds heavier), who can rush the passer, and he'll play outside in the 3-4. We don't have anybody like that on the roster right now.

Now, don't confuse that for me saying I'm signing off on the trade, I'm just trying to get some things straightened out. He's not Donnie Edwards, at all, by any stretch of the imagination.

I think you're right.

I think this move really resembles what Pioli said the first day of his press conference when he was hired here.

He said:

"Having players that know and understand schemes is just as important as talent level."

I think Vrabel is a product of the system that was run in NE, the same type of system Pioli is bringing here. Im excited about this move not only for that reason because he brings so many little things to the table that are HUGE part of success. He's got great versitily. You can line him up as an OLB to rush the passer. He did an outstanding job filling in for Bruschi when he was out of the lineup. He's smart, tough, got great work ethics, and of course a veteran leader who is going to make an excellent role player.

Not the best player out there by any means, but definately a good fit who is going to play a role.

Like I said I am good with this as long as the pick is low.
Vrabel is reported as saying that injuries played no part in his decline in production last year.

Listen, I'm not trying to sway anyone, just voicing my opinion. It is what it is, and it's over. I'd love to see it work out, but since I don't see him playing for 4 more years, I'm not seeing it. He's a rental.

The funniest thing about these armchair GMs is that they seem to already know the Chiefs overpaid, Vrabel will be signing a 15-year extension, and he's the unquestioned starter at SOLB.

News flash: he's coming here for chopped liver, and he'll be a backup/rotational player, at least until they have someone who BELONGS in the NFL at the position.

No player of character, which Vrabel is supposed to be, will admit that injuries caused a decline. They don't want anyone perceiving that as an excuse.

I'm absolutely not going to be against this, Donnie was unfortunately done I think, and Lewis, well...he's gonna want a shot at a ring in 09.

Vrabel strikes me as a player, who's a coach on the field, and the PERFECT influence for a group of guys trying to LEARN right now. I think on a team philosophy level, this move could be genius. Sick of the sh*t that comes from the mouths of LJ & BW? Enter the likes of Vrabel - they want a team full of guys who and work!
