Chiefs trade 34th pick for Cassel and Vrabel

Chiefs just got Cassel, ON NFLN!

http://www.kcchiefs.com/news/2009/02...with_patriots/

Quote:
The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Saturday that the club has acquired QB Matt Cassel and LB Mike Vrabel from New England in exchange for the Chiefs second-round pick (34th overall) in the 2009 NFL Draft. The agreement is contingent on both players reporting and passing their physicals.

“I have a long history with both players,” said Kansas City Chiefs General Manager Scott Pioli. “Mike and Matt are men that I respect both personally and professionally. I look forward to having them as new members of the Chiefs family.”

Cassell for our 2nd is the perferct (realistic) solution to our QB issues. I suspect he's as good as Trent Green and we get him for less and keep him for many more years. And we aren't forced to use our #3 pick on a risky QB pool.

There's a reason teams don't draft guards and right tackles and centers and rarely LBs in the top 5--it's because teams don't believe it's overly important.

That has nothing to do with us proving we know better than GMs. That's about analyzing what most GMs in the NFL do on a yearly basis.

I like the move. I would have liked Stafford or Sanchez juat as much if not more, but Cassel was definately one of the three options I was hoping we could get for our QBOTF.

I wouldn't mind it a bit now if we brought in TJ Houshmanzada for the other wideout to pair with Bowe.

I'm not giving one more thing to the Patriots in this deal. If it was agreed to, it was agreed to. Let him go to Tampa if they want to offer their first rounder.

haha! Another team thought New England was giving too much of a discount to KC and stepped in and offered more...this could nix both Vrabel and Cassel and Pioli would be back down to strike #1 in the book of Hamas!

if you read what i posted, it was one of these talking heads - saying that he had talked with people in the Pats organization. it was not his word, he was passing along what they say, that they feel Cassel is a top 10 QB in the league.

I just can't get excited by this. I guess I'll wait till I see what this one cost us. Just for me, it isn't till after the first year playing that people have some real tape on a guy and while I love TG and like Bowe, neither of them is Moss and Welker.

As usual, he is our QB, so I'll root for the guy to succeed.

I wouldn't mind seeing us go after Houshmandzadeh and then getting Monroe with our 3rd.
If Cassel's a product of the system then so is Brady. AAAND if we're getting a good systemn QB but are putting him into a similar system (and Pioli seems intent on turning us into the Pats) then he should succeed nicely. CRABTREE AT 3!!!
