Chiefs trade 34th pick for Cassel and Vrabel

Chiefs just got Cassel, ON NFLN!

http://www.kcchiefs.com/news/2009/02...with_patriots/

Quote:
The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Saturday that the club has acquired QB Matt Cassel and LB Mike Vrabel from New England in exchange for the Chiefs second-round pick (34th overall) in the 2009 NFL Draft. The agreement is contingent on both players reporting and passing their physicals.

“I have a long history with both players,” said Kansas City Chiefs General Manager Scott Pioli. “Mike and Matt are men that I respect both personally and professionally. I look forward to having them as new members of the Chiefs family.”

Given a choice between Cassel and Thigpen, I'll take Cassel every time.

Exactly...this is why I like you more than the other drafturbators...you are objective and can admit when you are right and wrong.

I guarantee you Hamas was not a Brees fan in 2001...GUARANTEED...he doesn't have any of the measurables that dude jerks off to when it comes to QB's every year.

They would have cursed CP more than ever if we took Brees #12 overall.

Would he have panned out with KC? Maybe, who knows?

I do know that the Chargers drafted a QB #1 overall because Brees was a bust...or so they thought.
I know, hootie. I hate the brees comparison.

Brees was passed up once by almost every NFL team. Nobody knew anything about Brees and it would have been a reach for the Chiefs to draft him.

Just because we know now that Brees is a stud doesn't mean it was obvious in his draft year.

I think it makes it easier to find a buyer for that third overall pick. A lot of teams who thought we might be using it on a quarterback will now be thinking that it might be a tackle or some other player that they covet.

FAX
Or he could be implying, as I believe, that this was a coward's way out by Pioli.

He didn't want to risk bombing out with that first pick. So rather than take a risk on elite talent, he took known mediocrity in Cassel.

If I honestly thought that Pioli thinks Cassel is a better QB prospect than either of those guys, I guess I'd be secure in that knowledge and defer to Pioli. I don't believe that is the case, however.

And for the record, I don't think Todd Haley knows !@#% about how to evaluate QBs. Recognizing that you have one of the most accurate QBs in league history as a backup QB and deciding it may be a good idea to start him hardly wins him rave reviews in my book.

To the doubters of Cassell, you need to realize he is already a PROVEN winner in the NFL. He won 11 freakin games for the Pats. They put a hurtin on my Dolphins too at Miami.

Just sayin you guys ripped off the Pats completely and I am lovin it.

I understand that, and it's bad business. Not that any of this has any correlation to this new deal.

Yeah, Ok.

There is no competition. The Chiefs didn't trade for a guy to create "competition".

Getting Cassel and still having the first round draft pick (and Vrabel thrown into the deal)... good trade by Pioli.

Also this move shows a glaring difference between Pioli and Dictator Carl. Go back to the Trent Green trade... Dictator Carl made it a 2 month process, in this situation Pioli obviously targeted Cassel from the start and wasted no time getting the guy he wanted.

Truth is, Cassel's arm strength is questionable just like Mark Sanchez's arm strength is questionable.

Although, Pats fans have said that Cassel's arm strength is better at this point in his career than Brady's was.
