Chiefs trade 34th pick for Cassel and Vrabel

Chiefs just got Cassel, ON NFLN!

http://www.kcchiefs.com/news/2009/02...with_patriots/

Quote:
The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Saturday that the club has acquired QB Matt Cassel and LB Mike Vrabel from New England in exchange for the Chiefs second-round pick (34th overall) in the 2009 NFL Draft. The agreement is contingent on both players reporting and passing their physicals.

“I have a long history with both players,” said Kansas City Chiefs General Manager Scott Pioli. “Mike and Matt are men that I respect both personally and professionally. I look forward to having them as new members of the Chiefs family.”

I am willing to say that Pioli is going to be actively searching for a trade down partner now to make up for the loss of the second rounder.

Nope. He's a mobile QB--a facet of this game that isn't talked about. But he isn't a guy who will tuck the ball under if he doesn't like his first read.

Depends on what happens with the QB's and OT's at the top.

No. I'm not ignoring.

I believe that Sanchez is going to be a much better QB than Cassel.
If I'm right, then the trade isn't a good value.

I hope to hell I'm proven wrong.

Well, at least now, I'll only have to watch the first half hour of the draft coverage on that Saturday.

The "only a 2nd" would be more palatable if it weren't basically a late 1st. That's a really high "only a 2nd".

Oh well, what's done is done.

Exactly the bottom-line. No doubt about it, IMHO.

Nice job, Mr. Pioli.

Not every qb could have done the things cassel did last year.

I saw a post where someone said cassel took them from 16-0 to 11-5
It was the patriot defense that caused 4 of those losses only the Indy game can an argument be made that Brady would have made the difference. A more intelligent analysis would be that with 95 percent of the qbs out there the patriots would have gone 8-8 or 9-7

you don't trade down in advance. get tenative deals in place if you like, but wait until draft day and auction the pick off while you're on the clock.

That's what I think too. He knows value.

And if we somehow get Cassel and Vrabel and end up with, say the #15 and #40 picks in the draft, Pioli might as well be annointed because he's a goddamn genious (CP spelling).

Cassel has as many 400 yard games as John Elway.

I'm guessing we stock up on OL, WR, and DE....as much as possible in the draft and FA.

If we do, with the youth of this team and the talent we do have....we are on our way toward a big step forward.
