Chiefs trade 34th pick for Cassel and Vrabel

Chiefs just got Cassel, ON NFLN!

http://www.kcchiefs.com/news/2009/02...with_patriots/

Quote:
The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Saturday that the club has acquired QB Matt Cassel and LB Mike Vrabel from New England in exchange for the Chiefs second-round pick (34th overall) in the 2009 NFL Draft. The agreement is contingent on both players reporting and passing their physicals.

“I have a long history with both players,” said Kansas City Chiefs General Manager Scott Pioli. “Mike and Matt are men that I respect both personally and professionally. I look forward to having them as new members of the Chiefs family.”

Wow holy shit I take the morning off and the Chiefs pull off a blockbuster trade. I am not a fan of Cassell at all but that is the way it goes. I hope he can do a good job for us.

With all the second round picks this organization has pissed down it's leg...you'd think we would all be ECSTATIC that Pioli just filled our biggest need with the best option available at that position, this year, in either the draft or free agency.

And he got Vrabel thrown into the deal for extra. Nice.

Scott rocks.

Fact of the matter is both were overlooked QBs who proved they can play at a high level over several seasons.

Sanchez should have stayed in college!
Ryan was drafted 3rd and was the first QB taken. How does that compare with a second rounder?

If I honestly thought that Pioli thinks Cassel is a better QB prospect than either of those guys, I guess I'd be secure in that knowledge and defer to Pioli. I don't believe that is the case, however.

And for the record, I don't think Todd Haley knows !@#% about how to evaluate QBs. Recognizing that you have one of the most accurate QBs in league history as a backup QB and deciding it may be a good idea to start him hardly wins him rave reviews in my book.
He had the 4th highest rating in the league. Just because he didnt have guys who dropped balls doesnt make him lesser. If anything it convicts us to make sure he has guys around him who wont drop balls.

What I just said, bears repeating:

Pioli just filled our biggest need with the best option available at that position, this year, in either the draft or free agency.

Bowe, Crabtree, Gonzo would be a pretty dang good trio of weapons.
Isn't crabtree a possession WR?? Wouldn't we need a burner opposite of Bowe??

Agree. Truth is, if you go by the draft value chart, we could end up with much more than the 15 and 40 picks for our #3. We could have another first in 2010 too.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. The fact is he's still a guy going into his second year as a starter, without his powerhouse offense, to a new team.

There will be growing pains. Trent Green wasn't a rookie, he was familar with the system, and it still took him 2 years to really start clicking.

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Maybe Cassell will ask to have his locker next to Pollards....seeing how he catapulted his career and all.

Find me the tape of Matt Cassel running a pro-style offense.

He's a spread monkey, same as Thigpen. He's just a taller spread monkey.

That would be one exciting opportunity with this draft.
