Chiefs trade 34th pick for Cassel and Vrabel

Chiefs just got Cassel, ON NFLN!

http://www.kcchiefs.com/news/2009/02...with_patriots/

Quote:
The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Saturday that the club has acquired QB Matt Cassel and LB Mike Vrabel from New England in exchange for the Chiefs second-round pick (34th overall) in the 2009 NFL Draft. The agreement is contingent on both players reporting and passing their physicals.

“I have a long history with both players,” said Kansas City Chiefs General Manager Scott Pioli. “Mike and Matt are men that I respect both personally and professionally. I look forward to having them as new members of the Chiefs family.”

What about this....

Accuracy or arm strength? Joe Montana, Tom Brady, Matt Cassel, Chad Pennington won games with accuracy and decision-making not arm strength. But No. 1 overall picks with great arm strength include Drew Bledsoe, Michael Vick, and Jeff George (also JaMarcus Russell, Ryan Leaf, Jay Cutler).

I think alot of the people here that say this undervalue the position, though.

No, a TE isn't going to stretch the field and make alot of gamebreaking plays. They're not going to put a good team over the top like a Moss or Welker.

But a TE, especially one with Tony G's ability, makes it nearly IMPOSSIBLE for a QB to completely implode. You can never underestimate how much a safety valve like that means to a new QB.

If that's true that Denver was interested in Cassel for Cutler like Shefter says, WOW.

Schefter is usually pretty right on with Denver news.

I'm not suggesting that we throw the value chart away. It was a freaking from-the-hip hypothetical, christ.

That being said, the top of this draft is AWFUL.

Yeah Kiper and company were ripping this deal up on ESPN radio. They couldn't believe that Detroit sat there and let us make this move, when they had 3 picks before the one we gave up, plus they could've thrown in late round compensation to sweeten the deal.

I've pretty much come to the conclusion that a QB, even a great one, is going to have a tough time winning if he doesn't have weapons. To me, Cassel has proven he can succeed if he is in the system the Pats run and has weapons. So it is basically Pioli's job now to make sure he gives Cassel legit weapons to succeed here...
