The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Saturday that the club has acquired QB Matt Cassel and LB Mike Vrabel from New England in exchange for the Chiefs second-round pick (34th overall) in the 2009 NFL Draft. The agreement is contingent on both players reporting and passing their physicals.

“I have a long history with both players,” said Kansas City Chiefs General Manager Scott Pioli. “Mike and Matt are men that I respect both personally and professionally. I look forward to having them as new members of the Chiefs family.”

That's the beauty of this. All these people who've been saying we MUST acquire a QB because that's what winning teams do, and making fun of everyone who was "afraid" of taking a calculated risk on a QB are now the ones "afraid" because the QB we took a risk on is not the one they propped up for the last several months.

Agreed. It should also be noted that Brady won 11 games in his first season and made the playoffs, whereas Cassel won 11 games and didn't make the playoffs. So it should also be factored in that Cassel had a significantly more competitive playoff pool.

Back in 2002 the Bills gave up a 1st rounder in exchange for a Dinosaur statue gunslinger whose only skills were making mistakes when the game was on the line and throwing the ball into triple-coverage. Bledsoe was also on the downside of his career- yet the Pats got a 1st rounder.

In 2009, they have a QB in the prime of his career who has been the understudy to one of the games greatest. He has shown that he can manage games, win shootouts, and NOT make dumb mistakes. Given his shot with little preperation, he leads a team with a horrid defense to an 11-5 record. What do they get? A 2nd rounder.

Debunking the Giant Fallacy - Matt was NEVER going to stay.
After the franchising of Cassel, head after talking head discussed how if Brady was healthy they'ld trade Casel, if not they'ld keep him.

Now that this deal is going down, they'll be saying that this means Tom is fine.
He probably is, and that's great, but this trade has nothing to do with Brady's health.

Cassel was NEVER going to stay. BB was Never gonna pay him 14.6 million dollars. Cassel was tagged with every intent to get rid of him as close to the start of FA as possible for whatever they could best get QUICKLY.

People will also laugh and joke if it's just a second pick. But BB's objective was to manufacture this 2nd round pick (or whatever he ets) OUT of THIN air, with no impact on his cap and without hamstringing him in FA or drafting.

The goal was plain and simple. Wham-Bam, thank you mam.

If it were (or is) true that Brady has issues, then that always was something to be dealt with outside of the Cassel framework. We couldn't keep Cassel and we never even considered keeping him. We are watcheing the Master.

Take notes.

That's not ironic at all. Find someone who was in favor of getting just-any-QB-for-the-sake-of-getting-a-QB and maybe this post will ring true.

"All these people" happened to like Stafford and Sancez, specifically, as prospects. The weren't in favor of taking Freeman or Davis in the 2nd or anything like that just to "take a calculated risk."

We aren't just getting "any" QB for the sake of getting a QB. We're getting a QB that OUR GM, not someone else's GM, OUR GM, extensively scouted, drafted, and watched develop, to play in pretty much the same offensive system with the same style of coaching staff that he just left.

I'm really not saying he's going to be Peyton Manning, or Tom Brady, but to say we just got "any QB just to get one" is completely false. Heck, I'm not sure Cassel is better than Stafford, but there will not be a more-researched QB acquisition this offseason.

I was saying that it would be hard to find someone who just blindly wanted a QB, no matter who he is. The loud QB supporters wanted Stafford or Sanchez. Specifically.

Yeah, the team is taking a risk on a QB. But Cassel is a very different kind of QB acquisition. He's not as young nor is he considered to have the same ceiling. I just don't see what is ironic about desiring Stafford or Sanchez but panning the move to get Cassel.
