Chiefs trade 34th pick for Cassel and Vrabel

Chiefs just got Cassel, ON NFLN!

http://www.kcchiefs.com/news/2009/02...with_patriots/

Quote:
The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Saturday that the club has acquired QB Matt Cassel and LB Mike Vrabel from New England in exchange for the Chiefs second-round pick (34th overall) in the 2009 NFL Draft. The agreement is contingent on both players reporting and passing their physicals.

“I have a long history with both players,” said Kansas City Chiefs General Manager Scott Pioli. “Mike and Matt are men that I respect both personally and professionally. I look forward to having them as new members of the Chiefs family.”

The Steelers didn't just stop him, they made him look bad. And it was very predictable when it happened. And in the playoffs, he'll have to beat teams like that.

People just should not get too carried away. He has a long way to go.

You can only draft ONE player with our 2nd round pick and we just got TWO players, that have actually proven something in the NFL. I believe Stafford goes to the Lions and Sanchez doesn't fit our scheme, so it's a damn good move.

Yeah.

When I think of hope that's not really the kind of thing that crosses my mind...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

We shouldn't.

But it's not surprising Cassel got eaten alive against a Super Bowl defense his first time facing them.

We'll see how he does in future encounters.

What is different in Cassel's skillset vs Sanchez' skillset, in your estimation, that makes Sanchez a bad fit for Haley's offense?

Because Cassel is a young QB, who's played a full season.

Basically, we're getting a young QB with alot of apparent upside who's proved he can win in the NFL with the proper supporting cast.

ALOT of highly thought of college QB's never do that.....

Was USC playing WCO with Sanchez?

Couple points on that:

1) James Harrison absolutely dominated Matt Light. When your left tackle gets that thoroughly destroyed, the QB will always look bad, period. Sure, Cassel fumbled, but how is that Cassel's fault? Should he have have just assumed that he was going to have to throw off of a 1 step drop?
2) Cassel hit Randy Moss right in the numbers at the end of the first half, and he dropped it. Completely changed the dynamic of the game, IMO.
3) Sam Aiken fumbled a kickoff after a Steelers TD in the second half, and turned the ball over. That was the real killer- until that, the Pats were in it.

Cassel's one of the few players who didn't completely suck in that game. If Moss catches that ball at the end of the first half, which he'll catch 99 in 100 times, we'd be talking about a much closer game, although I still think the Steelers would have won.
