Chiefs trade 34th pick for Cassel and Vrabel

Chiefs just got Cassel, ON NFLN!

http://www.kcchiefs.com/news/2009/02...with_patriots/

Quote:
The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Saturday that the club has acquired QB Matt Cassel and LB Mike Vrabel from New England in exchange for the Chiefs second-round pick (34th overall) in the 2009 NFL Draft. The agreement is contingent on both players reporting and passing their physicals.

“I have a long history with both players,” said Kansas City Chiefs General Manager Scott Pioli. “Mike and Matt are men that I respect both personally and professionally. I look forward to having them as new members of the Chiefs family.”

also it seems that he hits the WRs in stride look about 1:50 in even though its dropped it looked perfect to me. maybe that s some of the reason 55% of their passing yards were RAC, he put the ball where they could run(i know moss and welker helped ALOT too)

I'm in the process of doing the same thing I did when looking at draft picks, and you if can't respect it then maybe you aren't the great ****ing football fan you think you are.

You wanna' buy whatever someone feeds you, that's on you. Not me.

Now, so far his mechanics look very good. I can't really judge the spiral because the film is so shitty, but he does a good job of getting the ball in to tight coverage, and he reads the defense very well thus far.

See? It's not just lip for the sake of lip; I wanna' know what this mother****er is all about if he's gonna' be leading this team, capiche?

Hey DCS, can you name any HOF QB's that spent a lot of time in the shotgun?

For a hint, I bet Bronco fans could.

But then I guess he must be a shitty spread QB like Brees?

When you've got DT and Smith coming after your ass all day, you don't really have much of a choice.

Now, I don't see his receivers having to make some super, extra-special effort to connect with Cassel's passes, so as far as I'm concerned, the whole "his receivers were the key" argument doesn't hold any water.

Truth be told, though his pocket footwork is a little sketchy, I see a lot of Sanchez in this guy.

See? I can be reasonable.

I'd like to see more of how he does throwing on the run, as there's just not much here( apparently, Pat fans like to make useless still-shot compilations set to shitty music as opposed to live action).

We need more Pat games. There's nothing to do between now and the draft but watch film anyway, and I want to see more of Cassel's work.

I will say this:

I don't know what kind of camp they run up there, but how this guy can play at this level with so little/non-existent prior starting time, is pretty ****ing amazing.

Shotgun ≠ Spread

BXII Spread ≠ Urban Meyer's Spread Option.

haha

Elway's bread 'n butter was the shotgun in the 80's. I don't know where the idea comes from that the shotgun is a "gimmick".

And if you look at that Cassel video again, it's not DT and Smith coming after Cassel every play, but it sure looks like it. Dude seems to constantly be under pressure.

The system: Meyer's 12-0 Fiesta Bowl team at Utah last season lined up almost exclusively in the shotgun with either one or no running backs and four or five receivers.

How often does any pro team line up with 4 or 5 wide? Do you really think we are going to start now?

Players shifted and went into motion prior to the snap on almost every play.

Wow, sounds like a Vermeil offense, not something we have now or are going to have.

The base play was a "zone read" in which, after reading the defense, the quarterback could either hand off to the tailback on a counter or keep it himself. The unique scheme mixes spread passing -- with an emphasis on short, high-percentage throws -- and old-school option football, including a modernized "triple-option" play in which the quarterback runs along the line and either pitches to the motion receiver or tosses a forward shovel pass to the tailback or another receiver.

Wow, sounds kind of like a screen or bootleg like Denver has won Super Bowls with and destroys our defense constanly.

----------------------

Am I reading this wrong, or does the spread have absolutely nothing to do with our past, present, or future schemes? So from what I can tell, bitching about the spread in the NFL is kind of pointless. This isn't THAT spread.

He's not folding in the pocket, that's for sure. There's just nothing on this guy on the net; gonna' have to track down the 2008 season games I guess.
