Taweret makes much more sense...

That would explain the ankh in both hands too. And the pointy ears....

According to "The Book of the Dead", Taweret guarded the paths to the mountains of the west which led to the underworld and could also use magic to help the deceased pass safely through that dangerous and frightening land.

Taweret IS a hippo. Consort to the original god of evil. To paraphrase the Etrade Baby, she's a Skankopotomus.

After a little research, I think the statue is that of the Egyptian Goddess Mut, or mother of all living beings:

Lady of Heaven.

* Attributes: Mut was the divine mother, the queen of all gods. She was the female counterpart of Amun. Mut usurped many of the other Egyptian goddess that exhibited the attributes of motherhood.

* Relations: Wife of Amun, mother of all the gods, mother of all living things.

I don't think there is any symbolism either, but why the hell would they build a statue of a god wearing a skirt, when there hasn't ever been a statue of the same god wearing a skirt before?

The irony of all this is that we've dedicated all this brainpower to something that was onscreen for a total of, what, 5 seconds, including the foot years ago and the recent rear-view. Something that probably has zero relevance to the overall story.

I didn't find enough pictures to confirm or deny but it would be interesting if the statue was Mut and Alpert was Amun.

Why?

Mut was generally always depicted as having wings. Sometimes as a vulture or with the headdress of a vulture. And she always has a symbolic red dress.

I can maybe see some connection as her being regarded as "mother", and especially the fact that she can't have children. But other than that, she doesn't make much sense for the statue IMO.

How can you think it will have zero relevance? Nothing is shown by accident.

I don't know.

I guess I don't know what to think.

I give up on this mystery.

All that I mean is that I don't think it will be a plot device in the end.
