Why you should be scared...

Pioli and Haley thought this team would be competitive. They thought we had a shot at winning eight games.

Everyone wants to talk about how bad the roster is and how we have to cut them slack because they're digging out from Peterson and Herm's mess. This is no different from the last Chiefs team. Peterson and Herm thought that roster was capable of being competitive. They thought we could win six or seven with last year's roster.

Pioli and Haley thought we could win eight or more with what they've put out there.

Do they know what it takes to win football games? It takes players. Not signs or media policies or Pentagon-like security or secrets or cursing at the players. Players win football games.

22 guys off the street could win two games. We're halfway home and the Chiefs have one victory.

I can't disagree with you. We all celebrated when Carl and company left, and Pioli was hired. Since that time it seems we've had 1 head scratching moment after another.

Haley's hiring was a head scratcher. Hiring a bunch of fired defensive coordinators to come coach the defense was a head scratcher. Trading for Matt Cassell essentially leaving us no value with our 3rd pick in this year's draft was a head scratcher. Forcing a 3-4 scheme on a team built for a 4-3 was a head scratcher, particularly considering how many teams were converting to the 3-4. Not addressing our offensive line in a draft that seemingly had plenty of talent to choose from was a head scratcher. Haley makes a ton of head scratching decisions during games. There's plenty more but for the sake of time I'll move on.

Here we are at 1-7 in the opening year of this regime and it's apparent these guys are going to do it their way regardless of what was available to them when they first came on board. It's flat out going to take some time and you know as well as anyone that the Hunt family is loyal to a fault at times. There are plenty of reasons for concern even though we're just getting started.

I hope you start writing about some of the reasons for concern, and your opinions on solutions rather than repeating the alarm over and over. We all know that Pioli and Haley are ego maniacs and have locked down Arrowhead to all of you guys. Let's talk about what they're doing wrong, why it's wrong, and what the solutions are.

It's not going to change their philosophy but at least we'll have something interesting to talk about instead of just inserting the fatlock smiley and talking about your hurt butt after every article.

I think the brass and the head coach are all in over their heads at this point. Cassel is obviously a disappointed so far and Pioli didn't do anything in the draft to really help us this season. He better not whiff in this next draft. Haley needs a competent OC and Pendergast needs to see the door.

Ohh, and Jason, I like your work unlike some of the vitrol others toss your way that's totally off topic with whatever opinions you offer, but I will say that the Pioli subject, and especially the weak nickname "Egoli", is rather trite and seems overly played out. At the very least the nickname needs to be dropped because even if you are making a valid point, using such a childish, and not really even funny or clever nickname debases your point and makes the reader think you've resorted to childish namecalling... which then makes it seem your opinion is simply more of a rash emotional attack then an articulate logical point... just my opinion...

I don't think so at all. They just needed some veterans to complement all the young players. They were all stop gap type moves.

I think another serious problem is NE bailed themselves out a few times with FA and frankly Clark Hunt is not going to spend like Bob Kraft.

A columist can ride management. Whitlock rode CP for years with success. Pioli was not a bad chance to take by Hunt. He's made mistakes, but he'll get better. Haley is more the problem. His offensive play-calling (except for the last 5 minutes of the Jags game) would get any OC fired. It reminded me of Solari -- always looking for a 4 yard gain, and never challenging downfield. Maybe Haley will learn that games can be won with throws downfield to Bowe and Chamber, or even Bradley, rather than 3 yard passes to Long or Ryan, or the ever-predictible draw up the middle on third down.

JWhit, cut the current team management slack when they do something right, and then the criticism will seem fairer. They've not been doing alot right lately, but picking up Wade and Chamber off waivers were good moves. Cutting Pollard was not. Putting in place a team-first mindset was good. Moving to a 3-4 defense when the team had so many other needs was a bad call (costing us several players waived and important draft picks used to just start trying to put a 3-4 together in 2 years). Bringing in an offensive minded HC was a good thing. Firing Chan Gailey was not. Gailey turned Thigpen from chickensh*t to chicken salad last year by changing scheme. Haley, so far, has stuck stubbornly to the chickensh*t predictable approach of Solari, with occasional 4th down conversions and on-side kick attempts (but not enough to energize things).

Just my opinion anyway. Regardless of the crap you get here Jason, I'm glad you are here and reading our stuff. I'd rather have you engaged with the fans than isolating yourself -- like you accuse management of doing.

I absolutely agree. I need to know, however, whether it is Cassel or Haley targeting Long. Still, putting Long on the field every play, instead of Wade or Bradley, is unbelievable. Not throwing to Bowe is a crime. He makes great catches. Only the easy ones are dropped.

He was trade though and so was Welker

I am still holding out hope for Haley. He has struggled this year but it is his first year so I am going to cut him some slack. I can tell he has calmed down alot and is not yelling nearing as much.
