Kiwi shares thoughts on old teammate LJ

Kawika Mitchell sounds off on Larry Johnson

Posted by Mike Florio on November 9, 2009 7:39 PM ET

In 2003, the Chiefs picked running back Larry Johnson in the first round of the draft. In round two, the Chiefs selected linebacker Kawika Mitchell.

They spent four seasons as teammates. Mitchell now plays for the Bills; he tore an ACL earlier this year, and he is on injured reserve.

Via Twitter, Mitchell offered some strong comments about his former teammate, who was cut today by the Chiefs.

"LJ doesn't respect women so I have no thoughts about him really," Mitchell said. "People like that r nothing. At 1 point we were boys."

Johnson currently is subject to the waiver system. If unclaimed by 4:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday, he'll become an unrestricted free agent.

mitchell used to take himself out of plays...fujita played well, but never outstanding...Vonnie Holliday did little when he wasn't hurt...Pollard wanted out.

sidenote...maybe every player mentioned purposely dogged it to get out the "hellhole" of KC.

I dont agree with this. I dont think he wanted out of kc. He seemed like he was on board with most of the change this offseason.

I doubt that Kawika was gonna dog it in a contract year.

At some point, doesn't it stop being a coincidence that all of our players who leave become productive players elsewhere?

When does it show a consistent problem with the Chiefs?

So which do you think it is? Bad coaching? Or good players in the wrong system? Holliday was with us in a 4-3, so maybe the 3-4 is more of his style. Fujita and Mitchell were both to young to have hit their prime. Same goes for Pollard I think. Cutting Pollard was a big mistake. I was against it the entire time.

Our position coaches are terrible, and we consistently run the wrong schemes for our talent.

We should have never switched to the Cover 2. Had we just stayed in a base 4-3, DJ, Kawika, Fujita, Pollard, Fox, and Wilkerson could have all been productive players.

Seriously, our defense could have been nearly solved:

3T: Dorsey (Wilkerson)
NT: Edwards
LDE: Hali (Wilkerson)

WLB: Fujita (Fox)
MLB: Mitchell
SLB: Johnson (Fox)

LCB: Flowers (Leggett)
RCB: Carr
SS: Pollard
FS: Morgan (Page)

That's if Allen was traded. You'd still have the top pick in the 2009 draft and the 2010 drafts to go after a guy like Dunlap (2010)

If Allen wasn't traded, then you can really go BPA on defense and add great depth (substituting Page for Morgan).

I totally agree with you but how soon we forget how everyone wanted Mitchell and Holliday out of town? I remember it like yesterday how everyone said "we have the worst line backers in the league." Oh to have that talent back. Hamas thanks for reminding me of how terrible this organization really has been at talent evaluation.....appreciate it!

I also still believe that Tank and Turk would have been solid rotation guys in the right defense.
