You're taking a small part of the game and deciding who goes home based on that. Yeah, both teams have the same chance, play by the same rules, etc; but I don't watch football for the kickers, I watch it for the football, and that's how I want it decided. I won't go as far as saying the best team always wins in a sudden death/no shootout game, but it's sure as hell a lot closer to it than ending with a gimmick.

The one thing you are missing are the (2) 15 min extra time (OT). In that way, each team has 30 minutes of chances to win AND if it is still tied, they BOTH get (5) PK shots. In the NFL, coin flip, march 30-40 yds, FG -> game over. There is around a 50% chance the other team never touches the ball again. That is insane and I have always hated it.
