Chad Ocho Cinco Fined $25,000 For Tweeting During A Preseason Game

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco was fined $25,000 Tuesday for violating two NFL game policies.

Ocho was fined for possession of an electronic device and posting messages on a social media site during the Bengals preseason win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Aug. 20.

Two messages appeared on Ochocinco's Twitter page during the prohibited period for players to be using social media, which is 90 minutes prior to kickoff and lasts until post-game media.

Ochocinco message appeared at 6:50 p.m. and the second at 9:53 p.m. Ocho's game was at 8:00 p.m. which was during the period prohibited to tweet. However, this brings up the question is it worth it?

Despite what many see the NFL as, it is purely entertainment. So why is it that Chad can't further the entertainment during a preseason game by interacting with his fans? WE TALKING BOUT PRESEASON? (Iverson Voice)

Do you feel the NFL went a little too far with this one?

Did they go to far? that depends...

Are the Bengals paying him to tweet or to pay attention during the game?

Oh, I promise it has ZERO to do with that. It's because of the television contract. They want exclusive access during those periods on gameday.

I follow Ochocinco on Twitter. He did tweet during the game. He got lit up by a linebacker and said, "I hate getting hit like that in the preseason." He later made reference that he was a bit groggy after the hit, so I'm sure even if he was trying to pay attention to the game it wasn't completely registering.

I like Chad but rules are rules. I do think $25,000 is a bit steep. Punishment > crime

They need to set the example... seriously, what's the point of tweeting during a game?

There's so much that could be done with tweeting... or communicating in general with people outside the game. Ocho doesn't care about the fines, this is all part of his brand and keeping things real for his fans and TV show.

There's no reason to tweet on the sidelines - bottom line.

Agreed. If he's using a phone, how do you know it's not somebody stealing plays from the other team or who knows, maybe even a player sending their own signals to another team. Lots of reasons to keep phones and internet off the sidelines.

Considering coaches cover their mouths when calling the play in to the QB, I would think a cell phone on the sidelines would be taboo.

Do they really have lip reading spies trying to decipher that shit fast enough to get it to the defense?
