FWIW, this is my post immediately after we drafted Charles and some people were complaining (since I apparently hated Jamaal Charles)

Out of curiosity, who was Smith? Can't think of who Smith would have been in that draft.

Doucet would have been nice.

Yeah, when I first got here mecca and I headbutted a few times over Orakpo and I just got to the point of "**** it" and went back to the Coalition for awhile. I guess I thought you were right there next to him in a unified front against Orakpo. I may have been wrong there.

I was the Coalition (where I posted before I got brought here by a couple posters that post on both boards) biggest Orakpo guy...he wasn't a popular guy there either. I was basically a stand alone fan of his for our top pick. That board wanted either Curry or ****ing Everette Brown iirc. Now everyone there uses revisionist history and says they all were on the bandwagon. Oh well.

Tyson will turn into a good player IMO (as Ive said all along) he just will never live up to #3. Orakpo easily could.

I'm fairly certain that I was pretty adamantly opposed to drafting Orakpo.

It's pretty clear I was wrong on that front.

I was ok with drafting Tyson Jackson, primarily due to the fact that Pioli shit on the value of draft with the trade for Cassel, but I really didn't like it.

I hope last night was just a glimpse of what Jackson will be.

Won't ever be worth the pick, but at least he won't be worthless.

I remember you and I going rounds on the Coalition about Orakpo a couple times when I likened him to a mixture of Hali and Freeney that is also a damn good run defender. Pretty much the only debate I can remember us getting into over there with ya. I still see him as that guy. I think he can be a 15+ sack guy that is very good against the run. I also wanted us to hire Jim Haslett as our DC at the time, oddly enough. Now they are both Redskins and Orakpo looks to be developing into a elite type player.

Oh well, I like the direction we are going and hopefully Studebaker will eventually grow into a poor mans Orakpo...I think he absolutely will be just that. I already like Romeo more than I liked Haslett and Tyson hopefully will develop into a player that gives us what we saw last night on a consistent basis. Maybe even a tad better next year and years after that.

I wasnt as pissed as most about the Tyson pick because I saw the major flaws in about every player thought of as a possible pick of ours and at least he had a high floor, I just saw Orakpo as a guy with a similar floor but much higher ceiling. Just a matter of preference, I guess and we needed to get a productive player at that pick and not another bust...I think we did just that.

I wasn't for drafting Orakpo, basically because Texas players have had difficulty in the past decade (basically under Mack Brown) translating from college to the NFL.

I don't think Texas players on the whole are well coached for the pro game. They use a spread offense and their defenses face spread offenses. It's difficult to project how they'll perform in the NFL. They generally are fantastic athletes but have a hard time with the game itself.

There was a guy posting in 2009 that wanted Everette Brown at #3 OVERALL. I went round and round with that guy.

Good times.

Reggie Smith, the safety.

A bunch of people were really high on he and Morgan. They both never amounted to anything in the league.

I was really high on Morgan after we drafted him, but I was wrong in that analysis.

Yeah, I just couldn't remember who Smith was. Thanks for answering that. I would like to have Doucet though.
