Wild Justice

Found this flipping through channels earlier - basically a game warden version of Cops. Trying to portray deer poachers as if they're ****ing serial killers.

Deer poaching - O the humanity. Especially considering there are so few of them left and all.

I haven't seen the show, but I did find this. That being said, I can just imagine the crappy way its shot (Steven Segal: Lawman anyone?). Unfortunately cop/jail/etc. dramas jumped the shark a while ago. I absolutely loved COPS for years, but I'm no longer very entertained by the genre (though DEA is still pretty good).

http://www.californiafishandgameward...m/index-3.html
Quote:
Game wardens in California are probably more likely than traditional officers to encounter illegal marijuana crops and drug smugglers because they are in the field. California's wardens issued about 45,000 to 50,000 tickets last year, about one-third of which fell into categories associated with traditional policing, Foley said.

And the job can be more dangerous than traditional policing, simply because of whom and what they patrol. Statistics show a warden is about 2.5 times more likely to be assaulted with a deadly weapon than are other officers, said Buonamici, Nevada's chief warden.
and
Quote:
Even though the majority of crimes committed by poachers are misdemeanors, Fish and Game laws are some of the most dangerous laws to enforce. Some poachers are willing to kill to continue their pursuit of killing wildlife that violates only misdemeanor laws. The illicit trade in selling wildlife parts in “black markets” is second only to the illegal drug trade, involving hundreds of millions of dollars in the unlawful sale of wild animal parts.
This has led to two additional disturbing statistics:
Statistics show Game Wardens at much higher risk to be assaulted or killed in the line of duty more often than officers of other agencies
Wardens are most likely to be assaulted during their careers
Now I have no idea how those statistics came about, but I'd heard similar stuff.

my old man was a game warden for 36 years in missouri. lived all over the state. he wasn't very popular with a number of people. by far, southeast missouri was the worst for poaching, growing weed, and moonshiners.

Next week on Wild Justice - our intrepid wardens zero in on illegal bunny poachers! Your liberal treehugging heart will burst at the seams as evile poachers take aim at poor endangered bunnies! Celebrity guest stars Glenn Close and Elmer Fudd make public apologies for their past indiscretions, and Olivia Newton John sings her timeless classic, "Please Mister Please, Don't Shoot My Bunny"!

I've watched 4 or 5 episodes now and have a newfound respect for game wardens. I didn't realize they dealt with drugs as much as they do - nearly every time they find poachers they also find drugs. It's not a bad show IMO.

One way to look at it is "it's just a deer or fish."

Another way to look at it is that nearly all of the people they encounter have a loaded weapon of some kind. That's gotta be stressful.

At least make it a challenge and do it with your bare hands. Now, I'm all for hunting for food, if that's the case, great! But just for fun and with a gun? lame and evil.
