Anyone Ever Learn A New Language?
I was considering learning Spanish.

Anyone ever learned a new language? is so, what did you use to learn it? what was your experience? how long did it take to do so?

i took a couple years in high school, but that was a long time ago and i've forgotten much of what i skipped then.

Its not really a 'shame.' Its the way things have always been. There used to be German news papers and german radio stations......And ALso Italian.....etc.....

Its nothing new.

Smart people who want to make money will learn the language to do more business.

Yes, it does. In that case, I'm all for them refusing to learn the language of the country which prohibits them from reaching their dreams.

I'm studying Mandarin because China will be our economical overlords soon... and Portuguese because Brazil's economy will be booming this next decade as well.

I don't need to know Hindi, as all of my business partners there speak perfect English... and I already know Russian.

So the BRIC countries, I have them covered.

Well , I disagree. A business should be able to run itself in any way it wants.....

We're not in a socialist country yet, thank god. If a businessman can make a few extra bucks by learning spanish, why not?

e4 is a much better system, since every square only has one name , whereas in P-K4 every square had two names....

It was a logical progression, but you can still use the old system if you prefer.

Not if I want to read anything on line or anything published in the last 20 years. It probably is a better system, but if you already know one it is hard to get your brain to switch.

Very true......I collect chess books and so like you say the older ones I have to 'switch' in my brain while reading them....(Only because I only been studying chess for the last 5 years or so and am fluent only in the algebraeic system).....

All the good books were written 20+ years ago anyhow LOL.....But yah, i see your frustration....All I can say is power through it.....and play some chess!
