Chiefs Mock (1/28/11)

Several things.

1. Bowe, Hali, Flowers... all get resigned.
2. Wiegmann can hold the fort at C another year.
3. Shaun Smith deserves a year at NT before we invest a high pick there.
4. I speculated as to our draft pick trades.

Here we go:

1. OLB Ryan Kerrigan, Purdue -- Extremely good motor, very strong guy.

2. WR Leonard Hankerson, Miami -- Pretty fast player, long arms and velcro hands.

3. WR/KR Randall Cobb, Kentucky -- A bigger version of Dexter McCluster, but he is more of a slot receiver, whereas McCluster is best running the ball.

4. NT Ian Williams, Notre Dame -- Pioli and Crennel don't need belt-busters, they just want extremely hard workers at the nose position.

5. RB Jamie Harper, Clemson -- Fairly versatile big back, with decent speed.

5 (Magee + 6th). OT Darius Morris, Temple -- Pure right tackle material with a ton of upside.

6 (Page). S Chris Culliver, South Carolina -- My guess is that Pioli wants a lot more pure speed at free safety.

7. QB Mitch Mustain, USC -- Career backup at USC with good intangibles? Sounds familiar....

sac's been pimping pettis (?) from boise st....i think he's a guy you could get in the 3rd to pair with a vet WR pickup....then you have enough weapons that you can use gadget micmidget as a whatever he is...

it seems to me with 2 smart FA acquisitions, a WR and a OL, we could then hit the rest of our biggest needs in the draft...you could then even grab a rb/QB in the 4th/5th

Best hands of any WR in the draft. Runs great routes. Extends for the ball. If the Chiefs could get him in the third, it would be a coup.

Sounds about right to me. They're really not that far away.

The question in the end, of course, will still be what kind of player Cassel is. But they should be able to fill most of the remaining holes and there should be a lot of a guys on the field at the start of the '11 season who are better players than they were at the start of '10.

well, Cassel isn't going anywhere...i've destroyed the part of me that cares about the most important player on the field...which is to say about 83% of me...great QBs are for other franchises...we've never tried to find one, and never will....

I don't care if we get a longterm answer at NT in this draft or a short term guy in FA, but we can't go another season (and against THAT schedule) without one again.

Agree with you on McCluster, too. He isn't Danny Woodhead, no matter how much people want him to be. He's 25 pounds too light for that. He needs to be getting the ball primarily in space on the other side of the LoS.
I believe that at least three positions need to be addressed in free agency for this team to take the next step in it's progression.

4th - Ian Williams, NT, Notre Dame
5th - Darius Morris, OT, Temple
6th - John Clay, RB, Wisconsin

I'd rather Tyson Clabo than Yanda, but could live with either.

And I'm with you on Stanton.

I'm fine with either Clabo or Yanda at OT. I just picked Yanda because he can play OG and RT.

I'm with Dane, in that I'd move Lilja to LG and give Asomoah his shot at RG.

Albert, Lilja, Kalil, Asomoah and Clabo would give us physical and athletic line.

Sounds good to me. I just don't know if Pioli and Hunt are going to want to pay Kalil the kind of money its going to take to get him.

How much do you think Kalil is expecting? Have you seen any reports or speculation?

The Panthers are a rebuilding team, basically starting from scratch with needs everywhere (including QB). Jerry Richardson let Julius Peppers walk and his underpaying his head coach. I don't think they'll overpay to keep their center.

That said, I'd just as happy with Kris O'Dowd.

Is Kalil regarded as being in the same company? I'm asking because I follow the Carolina Panthers like I follow golf or tennis.
