Toliet Fixin'

So I've got a leaky toilet.

This usually involves buying a $4 flapper and about 3 minutes of my time. For some reason the new flapper wouldn't seal and a 2nd more expensive ($6) flapper wouldn't do the trick either.

I don't believe that there are other flappers at the Home Depot that will fit the flush hole.

Any advise?

Man , what a bunch of morans. If you listen to the advice from these guys you'll never get it right.

If you've replaced the flapper twice and it still leaks it obviously means you're toilet has warped. You're going to have to get a torch and heat it up to straighten it. Heat the area around where the flapper goes and when it starts getting soft place a pipe wrench on both sides of the top of the tank and push down really hard. This should take the warp out.

After you've put everything back together you'll want to check for leaks which are hard to see because water is invisible. Well, not really invisible but it's clear which makes it hard to see. I would suggest getting some newspaper and lighting it on fire and place it under the tank. If the fire goes out then you probably still have a leak.

What's the recommended brand?
Phil will quickly give you the brand and model, but I just wanna know why you want to introduce mold into your bathroom. I thought that happened all on it's own? Does it run out after a while and need replenishing?

Bump - we're going with an American Standard (duh). Is there a specific model that we should go with or are we safe regardless. The wife wants the dual flush model.

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Now that we're on the subject I'm curious what the absolute best crapper is.

I don't mean most expensive. I don't want some seat with diamonds and gold, I mean BEST, STATE OF THE ART $3ITTER is...

The dual flush will save you a little bit of water but the Champion is the one with the powerful flush. The champion will take everything your butt can throw at it plus a bunch of toilet paper.

I don't know. I'm not in that kind of market but I've seen shows where they put in Toto toilets with heated seats and perfume aerators. There are also seats which have a bidet function. IIRC, $10k ballpark.

This . Stupidest Legislation ever written was abolishing 5 gallon tanks. Hard to believe the time and energy spent on writing that one.

I sell a lot of Gerber Avalanche series. They have a 3" flushvalve wich allows the water to flow faster from the tank to the bowl giving you a more powerful flush. Never had a callback or complaint. Besides the elongates bowl, you should look at the "comfort height" aka "handicap", the extra 2 1/2" doesn't sound like much but if you have bad knees or are getting up there in age, it's well worth the extra money. BTW if you do replace the toilet, you must always use a new wax ring and bolts and it's recomended you replace the supply tube as well.
