I've been wondering why we Mizzou fans don't have one of these.

If MU goes out there and plays their best game and Duke is just a little bit off, it could be like that UConn game from 3 years ago.

MU should've won that game, they just went cold at the wrong time.

Beggers can't be choosers - everyone has a tough road to the final 4. That said, ours isn't a hell of a lot harder than anyone else's. There's no reason that this team can't play like it was capable of in the early season and make it a lot further than people expect.
I think Pitt is the most beatable 1 seed simply because of how low-scoring their style is. Get hot from the perimeter, and you've got a puncher's chance.

When you play in the low 60s, a team that goes 8-18 from 3-point range is going to be right there.

Well, last I heard Tubbs was working on signing a new contract with the Gophers. But there's been a lot of smoke of him going to Ark and I tend to find that very believable.

In fairness - as far as I can tell, Hamas hates pretty much every coach ever (or maybe that's Frazod).

I'm completely stumped how anyone can kill Gary Pinkel. I guess I understand Anderson, we really have to start wondering about his ability to recruit size and if that continued failure will always hold him back at this level. But if someone constantly slams both Pinkel and Anderson, I have to wonder if they know just exactly who they're rooting for.

MU has no right to top 25 squads in both sports. They damn sure don't have a right to top 10 ones. Pinkel's built a consistent top 25 squad and Anderson has a team capable of doing damage (built on the rubble of the Snyder era) that seems to have a lot of very good kids on it.

All told, there aren't many schools I'd swap our coaching situations with. I mean is anyone really eager to bring in Rick Barnes and Mack Brown? We have a nice pair of coaches in Columbia.

Cincy - well, for an 11 seed, we could've drawn a hell of a lot worse team than Cincy. They play a similar style as we do and I still don't think there's any team in the country that can beat us at our own game if we play it right. Alas, Mizzou hasn't played the press or run well for a month. That said, Mizzou's absolutely capable of beating these guys.

UConn - Really? You folks really want to just write off a game against a team that just played 5 games in 5 nights? Especially with the style we play? Besides, I must be the only guy in the country not lining up to suck off the Big East. Has anyone considered the fact that maybe these guys are feeding their own ratings by beating each other? Maybe the whole damn conference is mediocre. For some reason, I get the feeling we'll see a Big East bloodbath by the Sweet 16 with only 3 or 4 of them making it through.

And if you want to go completely crazy, I think we got the 2nd most beatable 2 seed in the bracket (Really? Florida? C'mon...) and even the most beatable 1 seed.

It's the tourney - it's supposed to be hard. That said, I'm not going to quit on this team yet. Sure, they're probably going to bow out early, they've looked horrid lately. But they're a strange team to play and if they're hitting jumpers, they can run you out of the gym.

I'll take the bracket we got. And look on the bright side, at least we didn't get the bracket that poor Kansas got, right? I mean afterall, the NCAA selection committee has it out for KU every season and seeks to punish them by loading up their run with the likes of Northern Iowa, etc....

Brutal; the poor bastards.
What's the "style we play" mean? People need to shy away from the Fastest 40mins of bball talk because they're far from that.

Newsflash....MU isn't the 40 minutes of hell teams that Nolan Richardson had in the mid 90's. Not even close....those teams played defense. MU is one of the poorest defensive teams in the Big12. Their depth is laughable at best, and teams just dominate them in the paint.

If they're not hitting from downtown, it's a long day for MU and more times than not they'll lose.

And as far as the NCAA committee loading up KU region with UNI teams? KU was the #1 overall seed last season coming into the tournament however Duke got the easiest region known to mankind. That was the shittiest Duke team I've seen in years and they marched to the Final Four and won it all. Either way KU should've beaten UNI, but KU prob should have had Duke's region last season.

I like Anderson the person. Not a big fan of his system, which does seem rather mid-majorish.

Has Anderson secured a big-time recruit that he didn't have a personal connection to? How sustainable is this "pipeline"?

Guards? Yeah, he can recruit guards.

I almost wonder if he's not trying to recruit big-men that are too versatile.

Look at guys like Bowers, Moore, Mitchell; his strong front-court recruits. He seems to target guys that are jack of all trade, master of none types.

Why not just go get some big men with hops and desire? If the jumper doesn't come around so be it. Mizzou lacks any size that's willing to do the dirty work. I guess Moore qualifies, but he's just too damn slow to do it well and he gets in foul trouble.

It doesn't seem like it should be tough to find a Justin Gage type character (basketball-wise) every few years.

It's frustrating. People seem to love Anderson and he seems to be in on a lot of major recruits. But ultimately the one's he's getting are underwhelming (Moore) or ineligible (Mitchell). Otherwise they are family members (Carrol and Ratliffe) or don't come at all (Cousins).

Here's your question though - Can Mizzou recruit conventionally and win?

For instance - you know who they really REALLY need? Thomas Robinson. He'd be an absolutely perfect fit for this system and a perfect player for the needs of the team.

But could Mizzou ever go take Thomas Robinson from KU? I just don't know that they can.

So are we content with zigging when everyone else is zagging? Can we win by being unconventional w/ the hopes that another perfect storm season like 2 years ago comes along every few years?

Realistically - I think that might be our best option.

Ostensibly he can recruit guards, but it doesn't change the fact that all of "studs" have been essentially related to him.

I guess the thing that bothers me more than the system is Anderson's unwavering approach to it. This is something that is not a fair criticism, for example, of Pinkel. He's evolved. Enough? That's arguable. But the dude has modified his approach.

I don't see that type of thinking from Anderson, and this is the biggest key to high-quality coaching, assuming one cannot recruit with the biggest of the big dogs.

Could Mizzou the institution get a guy like Robinson? Hell. Yes.

Basketball is a different animal from football in the sense that it's easier for middling institutions to become relevant on the national stage. Memphis is a microcosm; it's all about the coach.
