updated 3-22 mock
http://walterfootball.com/draft2011_1.php Round 1 21. Kansas City Chiefs: Phil Taylor, NT, Baylor Scott Pioli needs his Vince Wilfork. The Chiefs struggled against the run late in the year because they had nothing at the nose tackle position. Phil Taylor would remedy that issue. After a strong showing at the Senior Bowl, Taylor continued to impress at the Combine and his Pro Day. He lost some more weight (334) and despite his massive frame, he ran a 5.18. Taylor has completely turned his life around, so despite his altercations three years ago at Penn State, I believe that Pioli will strongly consider him at No. 21. Other 2011 NFL Draft Possibilities: 1. Brooks Reed or Akeem Ayers, DE/OLB - Kansas City needs help across from Tamba Hali. 2. Nate Solder, Gabe Carimi or Derek Sherrod, OT - The Chiefs need to improve both tackle positions. Round 2 55. Kansas City Chiefs: Sam Acho, DE/OLB, Texas The Chiefs have only one reliable pass-rusher. Adding a solid complement across from Tamba Hali would take Kansas City's defense to the next level. Round 3 86. Kansas City Chiefs: Tandon Doss, WR, Indiana A list of players who have lined up across from Dwayne Bowe this season: Chris Chambers, Terrance Copper and Verran Tucker. Bleh. Round 4 117. Kansas City Chiefs: Delone Carter, RB, Syracuse Thomas Jones, 33 in August, is owed $3 million in 2011. He wasn't very effective this past season, so the Chiefs could let him go. If that happens, Delone Carter would be a very cheap alternative. Round 5 132. Kansas City Chiefs: Tim Barnes, C, Missouri Kansas City acquired this selection from Tampa Bay for Alex Magee. ESPN's Bill Williamson reported that there's a 50-percent chance that Casey Wiegmann, 38 in July, will retire this offseason. The Chiefs need a successor and some insurance just in case Wiegmann hangs it up. 137. Kansas City Chiefs: Nathan Enderle, QB, Idaho The Chiefs will owe Matt Cassel a ton of money in the near future if they decide to stick with him. They need to groom a young quarterback just in case Cassel's abysmal playoff performance wasn't a fluke. |

I'm not a big fan of Walter's but that's not a bad draft.

The one thing I can't get over is his obsession with a 4th round RB.

That's a ****ing horrible, needs-based draft where we reach in almost every round.

I really like that mock outside of the Taylor pick, but I understand the logic in it. I don't know about Acho as a guy in space, but I do think he could get after the passer/True fan.

If I'm going to completely re-pick......then I'm going.

Wow.
I, on the other hand, kinda hate that mock outside of the Taylor pick. A hybrid pass-rushing OLB isn't going to be a great fit opposite Hali just because of how Romeo uses his 'backers. I'd much rather see us take Titus Young with that pick (love the kid). Doss I really can't speak to but if Powe is here (and having taken someone like Ayers in the first and Young in the 2nd) I'd far prefer that route. Helu never impressed me much (apart from dismantling MU where he pretty much just ran straight through massive holes and scored without being touched). I'd rather see Clay from Wisconsin as our change of pace back and he can probably be had a round later. Barnes isn't an NFL lineman. I just don't see it. Enderle - well anytime you can groom a younger version of Matt Cassel, you have to take a shot right? Nah, Enderle doesn't do anything for me. And Smith - I honestly don't care who we take with that pick. That would be a very disappointing draft to me.

Barnes is a worse version of Casey Wiegmann, who was a backup for several years before becoming a good center. I can see Barnes sticking as a cerebral backup, but nothing more than OL depth in all likelihood.
