HBO greenlights A Game of Thrones pilot! (spoilers)
EDIT: Changed the original header to mark this as the thread where spoilers are allowed (but not necessarily recommended...). Created a new, spoiler-free thread for Ice and Fire virgins...
This is awesome... Huge, Huge News Nov. 11th, 2008 at 10:29 PM HBO has given the production order. They will be filming the pilot episode of A GAME OF THRONES. It's just the pilot so far. They'll need to see that before they decide whether to proceed with a full season's episodes. So let's all hope the pilot will kick serious ass. It should. David Benioff and Dan Weiss did a terrific job with the script. And yes, all of you can relax, it's very faithful. Dan and David will be the executive producers for the pilot and (we hope) the eventual series. More details when I have 'em. The news is very fresh. HBO just issued their own press release, which should be up on their website soon, if it's not there already. Winter is coming to HBO. Hot damn. Last edited by keg in kc; 04-25-2011 at 03:58 PM.. |

Overall, still an extremely well-done episode. I was dreading the Lady scene but that was also expertly done and achieved its purpose. |

Couple random questions. Not sure if I just missed the set-up to these or if they will be explained later as the season unfolds:
1. Why is Tyrion with Snow and the Night Watchmen out in the forest? 2. Why was the Stark mom (forgot her name) so pissed at Snow when he went in to say goodbye to Bran? 3. Why doesn't Snow carry his father's last name? He is Ned Stark's son, right? I'm guessing there's a lot more to this part of the story given Stark's comment to Snow that he will tell him about his mother when he gets back. Overall I thought it was a very solid episode. I like it more than the premiere. |

1. They were on their way to the big wall thing. 2. I would guess she doesn't care much for the constant reminder that her husband not only had an affair but had a child from that affair. 3. Because was Stark was married to Catelyn at the time he fathered Snow. |

1) Tyrion just wanted the adventure of seeing the Wall. And I get the impression he was tired of being around his family. 2) Nothing to add here, that nailed it. 3) Bastards of high birth born in the north take the last name Snow. Each region has its own bastard name. |

I'm glad they changed the painfully bad, possibly worst line of dialogue in the entire book series, when Jon says goodbye to Bran, and Catelyn says "It should have been you..." It just seemed too soapish and doesn't fit at all.

And she screams at him when he's simply going to say goodbye to his half-brother? I figured there was more to the story; guess she is just a c#nt. |

Catelyn is pretty awesome, actually (and crazy dynamic). But yeah, her deal with Snow is a flaw in her character (GRRM loves to give his good characters flaws and his bad characters merits). That being said, it's also indicative of Catelyn's true, pure love for Ned. Robert gets some on the side constantly, and Cersei doesn't really give a shit because she doesn't love Robert. Catelyn, on the other hand, truly loves Ned, and his bastard is a reminder that Ned's love for her might not be as true.

A few thoughts...
1) Cersei is coming around to being the loathsome character that I love to hate. Her piping up with "there's another direwolf" made want to slap her. 2) The Hound doesn't seem scarred enough. 3) Ilyn Payne was perfect, creepy as hell. |

They had a good side shot of the Hound where his scars were pretty evident. Fit what I pictured for him, and also knowing how he got the scars it seems to be a pretty good representation.

They did a bit of showing the relationship with Snow and Cat on the first episode, when he looked up at her when he was putting the arrows back on the range. They cut out a lot of it though. There was a lot more to it in the book where he started out in the hall at the welcome dinner for the King to Winterfell. The Starks and King's family were all at a main table, but Jon was set elsewhere with the servants and like. He fumed there for a while and I think some of the others there made some more comments about it and he finally left to go outside. That was when it picked up where Benjen arrived and the Bastard/Dwarf talk with Tyrion.
EDIT: Seems like int he book Cersei and Cat had some words about it too, and Cersei said something about how it must be insulting to have Jon around like that, as a constant reminder. |
