Royals Interested in BJ Upton

On my phone, so I can't post a link, but Rotoworld is reporting that the Royals are interested in BJ Upton. If true, I love this. Upton is the perfect type of player the Royals should be interested in.

What would you give up for him in terms of prospects?

What's the logic in the Blue Crew acquiring position players when pitching is of a greater need?

Unless they can get him without giving up prospects.. which makes my concern a little moot but still doesn't make sense to me...

If we're going to trade for proven talent at this point... it HAS to be starting pitching. The market for starting pitching sucks though, so we're sellers all the way

You're betting on upside here. Dude looked like he was going to be a monster based on his '07, but he's basically regressed ever since.

He's only 27, so Moore would be betting on a Meche-like signing.

It's going to take a legit prospect or two. Likely Myers and something else. Tough call...

Doesn't really matter, unless you're talking about after 2012.

Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me with Lorenzo Cain in the mix. But Cain's still in Omaha for whatever reason.

As far as Upton goes, the seemingly steady decline of his bat since '07/'08 would concern me. But he's great defensively, still young(ish) meaning the bat could turn back around and not particularly expensive as I recall. There could be worse gambles to take.

All in all, I'd still be thinking more along the lines of pitching. But if he can be got for a song...

He's not great defensively, by the numbers (according to Baseball Reference).

Fair enough. Great was too strong a word. Although that doesn't really impact the substance of what I was saying. i.e. I'm not sure why they'd do it...

I wouldn't get too excited. The Royals were mentioned with like seven other teams.

If the Royals made this move I would imagine it would mean either Cain or Myers (probably Myers) isn't as close as they'd hoped. An outfield of Gordon, Cain and Upton would be just fine with me. Melky and Francoeur gone... we stay young... get some talent... etc. I read somewhere recently that Myers seems "disinterested" in playing the outfield. Wish I could remember where.

Depending on what we give up I wouldn't mind it at all.

I'd rather not give up a top prospect for Upton, but like others have said, if he's cheap, I'm all for it. Not sure that I'd take him over the prospect of Myers though, although I haven't been keeping track of his (Myers) season that closely.
