Brown had one year with Seattle over 100 tackles.

OLB isn't like RT or Guard or Safety. It's a position you have to not only be good at, you want to be great at it. It's easily the second most important position on a 3-4 defense (behind Nose Tackle. And no other defensive position comes even close to those 2 in importance). Houston could be great. But there's also a very good chance he's average at best. And a decent chance he's a career backup (or worse).

If we're talking about a consensus top first round pick with potential top 15 value, sure. If we're talking about a low positional value position, sure. Me? I believe that having 3 outstanding OLBs is a great problem to have, and unlike most positions, you can continue to rotate players around. Especially given that Hali always seems to get banged up as much as he does.

If you're talking about difference makers... a guy like Breaston maybe turns our offense from average to slightly above average. A productive LOLB turns our defense from very good to elite.

It's a great system for OLB's and I would never advocate trading for a player who might just be a really great system guy.

Woodley isnt just a system guy though.

He would be a better fit for us than Studebaker and Houston because he is phenomenal against the run while being a quality pass rusher.

That said, he isnt "first round draft pick better" or "pay him more than 5 times the amount it costs for AS and JH combined and losing a first rounder at the same time as giving Hali a HUGE deal"

There are a lot of reasons it wouldnt be cost effective.

Id give em Houston and a third...thats about it.

1) Hali doesnt "get banged up a lot" he bangs people up. Big difference. He has started every game of his career, but one.

2) The only position right now that can move our defense from where we are to elite is a very good nose guard. We already have the LOLBs we need to greatly improve the play from the position from what we had last year.

That was because our idiot Defensive Coordinator thought it was a great idea to place a run-stuffing 3-4 ILB at 4-3 OLB. Bell didn't make the grade because he had a bum shoulder and he couldn't think his way out of a paper box.
