Orton Hears a Bus...

And he's on it.

From PFT:

Report: Broncos want to trade Orton and do it fast
Posted by Michael David Smith on July 26, 2011, 7:43 AM EDT
Denver Broncos v Kansas City Chiefs Getty Images

The Broncos’ front office has always maintained publicly that quarterback Kyle Orton will get a fair chance to compete for the starting job. In reality, the Broncos would love to trade Orton before training camp even starts.

Mike Klis of the Denver Post reports that the Broncos will place Orton on the trading block, and Orton’s time remaining as a Bronco may be down to hours, not days.

So despite all the talk about competition, Tim Tebow is almost certainly going to be the starter, with Brady Quinn as his backup.

The question for Orton is whether any team will want to trade for his contract, which pays him almost $9 million this year. Unless he’s ready to agree to a new deal, Orton may be a tough sell.

But he is an extremely smart and accurate QB, if a guy is open he will usually hit him, he's a much more consistent passer than Cassel.

Yeah, I think Orton has been pretty decent. The problems with the Broncos can't be laid entirely at his feet at all. We haven't run blocked well and we haven't had a lot of continuity on Offense. Our Defense has been incredibly weak as well.

Trading Orton is a calculated move of ability vs. potential. If we were an all around good team then I would say keep him and keep building up the team. But we are in a rebuild, so the hope is that Tebow hits his potential as we build a team around him. I think Tebow is going to be a very good Quarterback with substantial playmaking ability.

Quinn just plain sucks. We snagged a UDFA QB and I am hoping that we trade Orton, cut Quinn, then sign Jake Delhomme.

I totally understand starting Tebow and building for the future while in rebuild mode. What I don't understand is wanting Quinn as a backup over Orton. Must be that Orton is commanding a far greater salary, cause you're right, Quinn from what I've seen just plain sucks.

Agreed. All I would add is that the rosters are far from set at this point. I know it isn't fashionable to say here but Denver has a front office guy who knows a little about the QB position.

I honestly don't know what anybody sees in Quinn, but I think the idea is to get what they can out of an Orton trade because he only has one year left on his contract and we'll lose him next year for nothing.

That's weird. It seems like since the Broncos finished 2nd the year before, they should have been playing the 2nd place schedule last year, and the Chiefs, who finished last in 2009, should have gotten the last place schedule.

Oh, wait... That's exactly what happened.

I'm not guaranteeing that the Chiefs win the division again or make the playoffs. I'm saying they're not a bad team. The roster is a far cry from the 4-12 abortions we saw under Herm. Any idiot who has watched more than one game's worth of football in his life would be able to see that.

By saying "Who cares? All the AFC West teams suck" you're using that as an excuse for the pathetic state of your current team. I should know. I said the very same thing from 2007-2009. Self-honesty is the key to surviving these rebuilds, I'm telling you.

And now I'm done.

I didn't mean it like that. I meant in terms of schedule difficulty. Yeah, the Chiefs had two easy games that the Broncos didn't have, but if you're telling me that those two games against tougher opponents are the only reason why Kansas City won the division and Denver finished in the basement and not the other way around.... well... that would be idiotic, wouldn't it?

It is good that you back your team. Just stop acting surprised that until KC wins something your smack talking is going to be laughed at.
