"Official" 2011 St. Louis Cardinals Thread

This is so unreal. We were dead. No hope. A season over. Somehow, someway we find some team chemistry and squeak into the playoffs on the last day of the season.

Only to find us facing one of the best pitching staffs assembled in years with home field advantage. We somehow, someway find a way to beat the best pitcher in baseball on the road in an elimination game.

We have to go on the road and beat the team with the best home record in baseball. A team who mortgaged their future to make this run .We somehow, someway find a way to beat them on the road and make our 18th World series trip.

We take game 1, we give away game 2 and home field advantage. Albert goes off for probably the best performance in World Series history and we take game 3 easily. Games 4 & 5 our bats fall asleep, Phone gate happens and its not looking too good.

Game 6, one of the best baseball games of all time and it takes place in a season ending go home game. Cardinals are down 2 runs in their final chance on the season, twice. They are down to their final strike of the season, twice. They give up a 2 run homer in extra innings. In the bottom of the inning their final 3 batters are a combined 3-26 in the Playoffs and a pitcher because the bench is empty. Somehow, someway they get some runners on and the comeback player of the year drives in the tying run. Mr. Freese hits the walk off home run. We will see you tommorrow night.

Game 7, With our bulldog on the mound pitching on 3 days rest he is able to give us 6 good innings and get us to within 9 outs of our 11 World series title. Texas meltsdown, probably left over from last nights game and its over.

The underdog, come back team who had no business even being in the playoffs wins a World championship. They make movies about events like this in life. Events that you remember even if your not a fan of the sport or team for the rest of your life.

When it is your team.......Priceless

Just because a player is young and has potential doesn't mean they are worth keeping. Rasmus is obviously not mentally strong. Not something he is likely to just overcome.

We could've traded Rasmus for a !@#$load of talent last offseason. Instead we once again ran down his trade value and dumped him for 50 cents on the dollar.

We demoted Perez.

Over and over and over again this team bashes its trade chips before dealing them so they don't look bad in the papers for trading a legitimate talent. And over and over again it costs us a shitload of talent in return.

Trading Rasmus doesn't bother me. Trading him for a FA pitcher with an ERA of 4 absolutely does. Rasmus is a CFer with the talent to be one of the top 5 guys in the league, he absolutely should've brought in more than that.

Instead the asshole in the dugout ****ed with him, ruined his trade value then stomped his feet and held his breath until Moe traded him for a bag of magic beans.

I won't do this anymore. This team isn't fun to watch and this organization isn't enjoyable to follow with this tyrannical ****wit at the reigns. Life's too short and football is back.

I'm done with them until he's gone. You can keep buying the bullshit they shovel if you'd like. By all means, continue enabling this garbage. I refuse to do so.

If it's Jackson and Lawrie I'll be fine with it (in fact, I'd be elated).

If it's Jackson, Frasor and Yunel Escobar, I'd probably be okay with it (and I'm saying okay with a serious tinge of doubt in my voice there).

But I'm pretty sure it's none of those things and the combination of LaRussa/Mozeliak has ****ed us again.

Unreal - A GG/Silver Slugger RFer, A GG shortstop and a kid that was a top 10 CFer in baseball at 23 yrs old for a 1/2 season of Jake Westbrook, a 1/2 season of Edwin Jackson and a LOOGY.

I'd be disbarred if I were that bad at my job - Moe will get a raise and an extension.

It's just disgusting.

You're more torn up about that than I am.

I've seen Perez pitch a bunch this season - he's throwing about 92/93 and his slider doesn't have much tilt on it anymore (along with less velocity). His K rate has plummeted and his BB rate remains WAY too high for an elite reliever.

I'm not convinced he's better than Boggs or Motte and I know I like Lynne, Sanchez and probably Salas more than him. Besides - you know LaRussa would never have given Perez that closer gig.

Perez is an AS in name only. I'm really not impressed by him.

Alfonso Soriano is always near the top of the league in assists despite having a terrible throwing arm. You know what, Colby isn't a true 5 tool guy because of that arm, you're right, but he does have good range in CF, and his bat is a perennial All-Star type.

He could easily end up being Carlos Beltran.

At least the Bell trade was somewhat defensible b/c you get an elite closer and when he leaves, you'd get Type A compensation.

My prediction:

Edwin Jackson puts up Westbrookian ERA numbers and Mo signs him to a 4-40 extension.
