After losing out on Weddle, Texans turn attention to Asomugha and Joseph

The bad news for the Texans: They lost out on safety Eric Weddle after the Chargers reportedly “extended their budget” to get Weddle away from Houston.

The good news: They can use the money they saved to go after a cornerback with more value than Weddle. (And we actually like Weddle plenty.)

John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reports that the Texans are “working hard” on possible deals for Nnamdi Asomugha or Johnathan Joseph. They’ll have to shuffle around other contracts and give lots of upfront money to get a deal done, McClain writes.

We are more than 36 hours in sorta free agency, and we get the sense Asomugha’s market is still developing.

It wouldn’t shock us if a team we haven’t heard of yet enters the bidding if they learn the price isn’t as high as once feared.

For a guy with a "bum wheel" that is not too bad. He still produced after his injury, for a guy that can produce as well as you can when you have to deal with guys like Derek Anderson, John Skelton and Richard Bartel throwing you the ball. I mean, he literally had scrubs at QB. That's not his fault his number suffered.

Missed 3 games still had 700 yards receiving with the worst QB situation in the league last season. And he wasn't the number 1 option either.

That guy writing that is a joker. Andre Roberts and his 300 yards for the season (100 of those he got in one game) didn't beat anyone

I am sure he will do much better with pro bowler Matt Cassel throwing the ball. j/k Matt might have him enough weapons around him this year to have a good season.

Wonder if the Chiefs would would be one of those dozen teams?

Well I just have faith that Breaston IS better than Chris Chambers, Kevin Curtis, Lance Long, Veron Tucker, Bobby Engram, Amani Toomer, ______ insert whatever guy off the street or scrub WR veteran they were trotting out there.

Chiefs | Jonathan Baldwin expected to be No. 2 receiver
Wed, 27 Jul 2011 19:49:02 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs rookie WR Jonathan Baldwin is expected to be the team's No. 2 receiver, starting opposite of WR Dwayne Bowe. With the addition of WR Steve Breaston, the Chiefs' receiver position has upgraded considerably since last season. Breaston is expected to see time in the slot, while Baldwin now gives the team a vertical threat they've needed. If Baldwin is not able to start as a rookie, Breaston will be able to easily replace him.

The Chiefs have 3 wide receivers penciled in for the top 3 spots right now. If they're looking for anything, I'd think that it's likely a backup/slot receiver, and not a starter who's going to be pulling in several million dollars.

Cowboys | Marc Colombo may be a goner
Wed, 27 Jul 2011 21:31:15 -0700

The Dallas Cowboys were not able to work out a restructured contract with OL Marc Colombo, which makes it likely he will not return to Dallas this season.

You think Plax will be starting from day one? Between injury and prison time and short offseason it might take him awhile to return to form.

I am sure he will make good money and with that many teams looking at him he prob won't be a bargain either.

Making what up? He said that Columbo was a target for the Chiefs. I don't get how what you posted disproves what he said.

I think Plax will want to start. I think Pioli doesn't want problem players on his team. I think Pioli wants Baldwin surrounded by good influences and wants to keep the Plaxicos of the world away from Bowe. I think Pioli will want Baldwin to start as early in the season as possible, if not right away. I think it's more likely that the team starts Breaston out wide and uses someone else in the slot than it is that the team brings in Plaxico.

Of course, that's just my $.02.
