Before it seemed like McClain was being all coy. Now he's reposting these "I HOPE YOU SIGN WITH THE CHEEFS" tweets and it just looks like he's hoping for a job.

ESPN's John Clayton reports that the Raiders have decided against signing free agent OT Jared Gaither.
The Raiders put Gaither through an extensive medical checkup on Friday, but he apparently couldn't pass a physical. He didn't play a single down last year, so this has the look of a long-term problem. For a 25-year-old with All-Pro caliber talent as a left tackle, it's an awfully unfortunate situation. |

Updating a previous item, free agent LB Nick Barnett is visiting an unnamed team Saturday and will arrive in Detroit tonight.
Perhaps the unidentified club is the Chargers. The Lions will hope that Barnett doesn't stay in the city he's currently visiting, because they want to sign him and make him a starter. Barnett's Lions visit will occur on Sunday. |

The Eagles are for ****ing real. It would only take one boneheaded, forced into coverage throw by Vick to kill all of this.

He's done a pretty good job at updating the OP considering there are over 5,000 posts in this thread as well as over 300 pages.

Manning will get $69 million in first three years
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on July 30, 2011, 5:30 PM EDT Peyton Manning’s new five-year deal gives him the same average yearly salary as Tom Brady, but the front-loaded deal ensures that Manning is essentially the league’s highest paid player for the next three years by a wide margin. Chris Mortensen of ESPN writes that Manning will get $69 million over the next three years. (For comparison, we believe Brady got $48 million over his first three years.) That means Manning is “only” due $10.5 million-per-year in the final two years of his deal. Peter King of SI.com explains the possible logic behind the deal: “The new TV deal in 2014 will allow the team to re-do it. Sensible,” King writes. Then again, Manning will be 38 years old in 2014. The guy is one of the all-time greats, but he’s not immortal so it’s a little early to assume anything that will happen that far down the road. In the meantime, Manning will essentially be the game’s highest paid player by a fairly big margin.

As if they needed the help, Eagles now have two 2s, two 4s, two 5s and two 6s in 2012 draft. Talk about a well-run organization. |

Putting The Brakes On Talk Of Aubrayo Franklin To Chiefs
I'll admit it. I got caught up in the hype. Every year, there's a free agent that a lot of fans seem to get attached to and start demanding that their team sign him. This year, that's free agent NT Aubrayo Franklin. It's clear plenty of Kansas City Chiefs fans want this to happen but I'm the bearer of bad news -- Franklin's not signing in KC. Forget the report that the Chiefs have agreed to terms with former Baltimore Ravens NT Kelly Gregg. Even without that, Franklin's not the guy for KC. This according to people who know league personnel better than I. Star-divide Franklin's obviously the biggest name on the open market at nose tackle and reportedly could be looking for a deal in the $7-8 million per year range. If the Chiefs are going to spend that much money on a nose tackle, he better fit the system. The problem? He doesn't. At least as far as the Chiefs know because he hasn't played in their specific system. That's a lot of money to a guy that doesn't have the experience the Chiefs are really looking for and it would be unlike them to fit a square peg into a round hole, so to speak. it's even more than that, though. He hasn't even played in 60 percent of the snaps in a season since he's been in San Francisco. He has four career sacks. He was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens and released at the conclusion of his rookie deal. He comes to San Francisco making around the league minimum for a few years and then the 49ers franchised him last year to the tune of $7 million per year so that has made fans, like myself, think that's the market for him. And $7 million per year tells us this guy should be an elite nose tackle. But maybe it's not the market for him. Maybe the perception of his market is inflated because of that franchise tag last year. Maybe the reason we haven't heard a ton of rumors floating around about him is because there isn't the market for him we thought there would be. Sometimes I get caught up in the hype just like everyone else but we gotta think about things GM Scott Pioli has said before. He's into "substance over sizzle" and, at 30 years old and without multiple years playing at a high level, Franklin smells a little more of sizzle rather than substance. I'm not bashing Franklin here. He's a good player and he'll fit in well someplace because there aren't guys like him all over the league. There's no doubt about that. It's just not going to be Kansas City -- with or without Kelly Gregg.

Interesting considering Lacanfora said we were in the lead for Franklin and I can't recall him ever being wrong.

Trent Edwards - QB - Raiders Raiders signed QB Trent Edwards.
Oakland is actually one of the better places Edwards could have ended up, as he should be given a real shot at unseating Kyle Boller as the Raiders' backup quarterback. With Jason Campbell hardly having a vice-grip on the starting job, there's a real possibility Edwards could see some playing time this season. |
