if they are in the Matt Barkley hunt the may pull the trigger. Which would be hilarious being dethroned by another SC guy.

It certainly makes sense to make a determination on the value of a player and not pay more money than that limit to retain their services. What are Warren, Edwards, and Smith worth? There's really no way to tell until we see some stats this year, my hunch is that they're all a overpaid. We'll see...

thanks pioli

Shaun Smith got 7 mill for 3 years (total, not guaranteed)...that can't qualify as overpaid in the nfl under any circumstances...certainly not for DE with almsot 60 tackles

no question he was worth that much to us

Edwards was trash and I'm glad he's gone...Warren was a ? mark and now he's a bronco so f him...

My money says Shaun Smith is overpaid this year. How much of his improved play had to do with Romeo's coaching? Look at the stats - See a trend? His best efforts were when he was paired with Crennel. Otherwise the dude is a turd -

good thing Crennel isn't still here....

and 7mill over 3 years (with a max of 3 mill guaranteed) is the NFL equivalent of finding a quarter on the street....for a guy who gave us 56 tackles last year and helped improve our run defense, it's dirt cheap...

he walked in off the street and was our second best DL, without question

I really laugh at the people that really act like we haven't done anything to improve this team over last.
But, but, but O's and Forever Chief built the Chiefs into a Dynasty through "big name" signings in Free Agency in Madden

I guess what I'm getting at is that Smith is clearly at his best when he's been coach by Crennel. And he's clearly not willing to take less money or years under contract to stay with a specific coach thats improved his game over his spotty career. That's the real issue. I like the guy and was sad to see him go, but there is something to be said for recognizing the impact of a certain coach on a player's performance. By letting him walk, it's pretty safe to say that Pioli's aware of the correlation. Smith will underwhelm with Tennessee is my guess...

what Smith does in Tennessee is irrelevant...

we lost quality on the DL for pennies...and I'm guessing the reason he left has more to do with years on the contract than $$$...we probably offered a 1yr deal....again, squabbling over pennies...you could cut him next year with zero meaningful effect on the cap..

behind Jackson (who is a giant ?) we have no DE that has played 1st and 2nd downs in the NFL, we have a 3rd down specialist and a rookie 3rd rounder...I'm much more comfortable with Powe, a 6th rounder, at NT than I am Bailey at DE...
