I don't get this line of thinking.

Why does the Big Ten or Pac 10/12 need to go to 16 just because the SEC goes to 16?

I think conferences are being very selective because they want universities that will definitely add to each current conference team's cash pie, rather than keep it the same or dilute it. It's hard to make that claim unless you have a fanatical fan base and/or are located in a major state.

MU and ku are like the cute nice girls that you would be fine with taking home and introducing to your parents. Nothing wrong with them at all but you know they will be waiting, and before you go down that road you want to try to see if you can snag the hot blonde cheerleader (A&M) or the girl with the big rack that puts out (Nubs).

At least MU can offer a sizable TV market. Kansas schools are ****ed, though.

Still nothing on this on either ESPN's or Fox Sports' sites. SI has a story about the legislature meeting to discuss it.

Really? A&M is the juggy blonde?

Alright, but I still think MU is at least the doe-eyed brunette with the B cup but a smokin' bod that you're pretty sure would let you PIIHB if you played your cards right.

Just look at the strides they've made over the last 5 years. Look at the kind of recruits were able to take away from the 'blue blood' programs.

We're not OU. We're not Alabama or Texas or Notre Dame. But given what we've become, the resources available to the school and the room for growth, I still can't see how MU is so much less desirable than the Arkansas and Purdues of the world. It's a damn nice program with the room to become a perennial top-25 squad and dark horse top 10 squad every couple of seasons. What's not to like about that?

Yeah but if I'm honest I don't think that's completely true, because we split KC with ku/ksu and STL with the illini.

If all the conferences were blown up and started over both of us would be fine. But unfortunately the SEC is not going to kick out Miss State, Big Ten is not kicking out Purdue, Pac 12 isn't kicking out Oregon/Wash State, etc. It is a buyers market.

STL really isn't much of an Illinois market, from my experience.

MU/KU is a pretty even split in Kansas City, probably about 40/40 (with 20 going to KSU). But in STL, I'd give MU something like 2/3 over Illinois.

I think it's the chip on STL has on its shoulder re: Chicago. If you're an Illinois product, STL is simply predisposed to dislike you.

$$$$$$, Dallas/Houston/San Antonio markets, and fanatical fan support. Also opens up Texas state recruiting to the SEC.

Every market has overlap. VERY few have such a huge radius as Mizzou. Throw in the fact that both the football and basketball teams are in the top 25 every year, and Mizzou will be just fine.

Mizzou should ride out the Big XII thing until it collapses. There will be 2 or even 3 major conferences competing for them if it all hits the fan.

Makes you wonder a bit, though.

This is probably the highest the athletic department has ever been, on balance. You could argue that the Snyder years (where we got some legitimate press as national championship contenders) combined with the early Pinkel years (where we slowly turned it around B. Smith, etc...) were comparable, but these are headier times and likely to be much more sustained.

And still we're struggling to get respect among the national types. We're still fighting uphill in these conference musical chairs.

2 or 3 rough seasons, and the whole stinking thing could collapse by the time conferences are actually shopping.

I'm not waiting around to find out if I'm Alden. I take advantage of the fact that this may be the peak of this athletic program and I capitalize immediately.

Kansas will prob go to a crazy expanded basketball centric Big East if this thing blows up.

Mizzou gets in the Big 10 or SEC by way of an expanded super conference arms race.
