-- Please use this thread to recommend items at the Hyvee or whichever is your grocer

I was thinking it may be cool to exchange food feedback on foods you've tried, maybe newer products or classic foods...

include drinks, milk brand preferences, if you like.

Snack cakes are cool, if you like the Walmart bakery's cream horns, let's ****ing hear about it!

It can be junk food or healthy, both are open for any discussions or recommendations.

here are a few that easily come to mind w/o thinking about it too hard:

Heh. If it's any consolation, when I was in Emporia, the giant Dillon's closed up shop because Wal-Mart was kicking the shit out of it.

That's awesome! I always figured IGA was a midwest-based franchise.

Walmart is teh suck though. I only go there if I REALLY need to go there. Otherwise, I try to go to Target or Shopko, (eh, when I'm not shopping for food).

Most of the independent stores here are Western Family stores but there is still the odd IGA. Safeway is a big chain (I think they are called "Van's" in other parts of the country). However, we are really limited in choices. There aren't any Trader Joe's or Whole Foods or any of those kind of stores.

I drive by a Safeway, but I have yet to stop in and see what the hoopla is all about. I've heard good and bad things. We also have Aldi's, HyVee, Bag N Save, and a few other stores.

There's nothing like going into a small town store though. My parent's have a Jack N Jill's in the town they live in and everyone is always friendly, (even to the out-of-town city folk lol).

Is Safeway new in the area? They've been around here since I was a little kid (I'm 47) so they aren't a big deal. They tend to be expensive so we usually only buy sale items there.

I live out in the sticks so have very limited choices. There is a Safeway, a Super 1 (Rosauers), a mom and pop Western Family store and a Super Walmart. For anything else, we have to drive 80 miles to Spokane. About once every 6 weeks or so, we make a run down there and hit Costco, Cash n Carry, WinCo and several Asian markets.
