How so? Did he not hook Palko last game for Orton, even though he'd only been on the team for a little over a week? It's clear that for some reason, he doesn't believe Stanzi can or should start. This has less to do with Palko and more to do with Stanzi.

They've nearly set NFL records for offensive futility WITH Palko. If marching Palko out there week after god-forsaken week is not a signal to the team that he's giving up on the season, nothing else is.
Apparently, the team disagrees. Because they played really damn hard against New England, Pittsburgh, and Chicago. Today was the first game with Palko starting where the team didn't seem to rally behind their QB. Granted, that should have been the no-brainer time to put Stanzi in. But again, we have ZERO idea why Stanzi hasn't made his way into the starting lineup yet. Haley is usually not afraid to play a young guy over a veteran.

He didn't pull Palko. They put Orton in and proceeded to run a FLEA FLICKER. They didn't put him in there in a position to potentially succeed because then they might actually have to play him.

This is ALL about Palko. Haley desperately wants Palko to succeed. Haley sees a bit of himself in Palko.

You need to re-read my post. I never said the guys weren't trying behind Palko - they absolutely are.

And if they'll play for a guy that needs a HAIL MARY to actually score a passing TD, they'll damn sure play for Stanzi. Your excuse that starting Stanzi signals the end of the season is bogus, plain and simple.

Thomas Jones called and says you need to talk to Casey Weigmann.

Tell me you're not serious.

Haley runs a ton of quick screens. He almost never goes for it on 4th down with Palko. And on every 3rd and long, he either runs the ball or runs a short route. Pretty clear that the coaching is well aware of his limitations.

I think marching a veteran backup sends a different signal than marching out an unexperienced rookie from the scout team when your team is still on the bubble.

Charles got enough carries as he deserved last year. And who's going to replace Wiegmann? Pioli short-handed Haley on offensive linemen, so Wiegmann's replacement has had to spend the entire year prepping to play Guard.

Tyler Palko is a "veteran backup".

Nothing more needs to be said.

Very much so, but...

In the last 2 3/4 games, since the 3 TO's in 3 plays by Palko, he is 46-84 for 468 yards with 2 TD's and 2 INT's. The 468 yards in 2 3/4 games comes out to right at 170 yards a game. Those 3 games are against the Steelers, Bears, and Jets defenses.

In 9 starts, Cassel was 160-269 for 1713 yards with 10 TD's and 9 INT's. The yardage per game comes out pretty much right at 190 yards a game against defenses that are probably not quite as good as the last 3 Palko has went up against.

That says Cassel is pretty much backup material as well. Both need to go as soon as the final gun goes off on January 1st.

What's wrong with a flea flicker? I've seen them go for big yards.

They end in a sack about 10 times more often than a TD. Furthermore, a flea flicker will NEVER work when you can't run the ball.
