Here a question

If you have a business and know someone who can do it. Why not buy a generator and insulate it from cold weather and use cooking oil to power it? I would think it would be cheaper to you and not have to deal with epa and the electric company.

First off, you're talking about running a diesel generator off of cooking oil. Totally doable, usually without modification.

If you're using new cooking oil, it's called SVO (Straight Vegetable Oil), if you're using used oil it's WVO (Waste Vege Oil)

If you do just a bit of chemistry you turn the whole shebang into diesel fuel, and run that straight or blend it with Oil.

It's a good way to go, except that you just exchanged the electric company for SellYouVegeOil company, or your new venture as a guy who collects Waste Oil from various restaurants.

The EPA very much gets in your business if you elect to do the chemistry and make your own bio-diesel. All they require is that you pay the same tax that the big boys pay.

Keep us posted, Nut. Vege-fuel still has the same viscosity problems that diesel has at low temps, so you'll still need a pre-heater or some electric element to get things moving in the morning.

But that takes electricity.

Which you can get for free if.

You store it in a battery or steal it.

Maybe that person should just build a battery the size of their insulated generator and run everything off of that instead?

This subject has come up many times prior. In fact, a very long time ago, long before your time here, Phobia was going to hire KCNut as a reporter. I can't remember all the details, but their might have been an issue getting credentials to the Chiefs pressers, or something like that.

Perhaps it was a grammar issue, rather than press credentials. Search back through the archives and get back to me on that, okay?

I read a short story recently where people in a tiny town started hibernating. Families would just bunker down in one room with some supplies and blankets and basically sleep for three months. They heated their homes with generators fueled by cooking oil.
