If Texas and Oklahoma left, the Big XII will immediately become the worst football conference in the BCS. Shortly thereafter, they would become the second or third best football conference outside the BCS.

The problem with that is simply a numbers game... 35 schools claim 3+ college football championships, while only 7 schools claim 3+ college basketball championships.

Six schools have 10+ Final Four apperances... 33 schools have 3+.

Is it really that hard to figure out why more schools claim a football tradition over basketball?

As far as the short list of teams that claim multiple NCs in both sports, Michigan State is the one that sticks out that could possibly consider itself both.

Of course football is more popular, and the schools love it because filling 70,000 stadiums is somehow more profitable than filling 16,000 seat arenas... but, the NCAA tournament does use football stadiums for 3rd round games and some conference tournaments. Let's not be ridiculous.
