Well, in the real world, saying Cassel isn't a certainty to be the starter is a small important step.

That's fine. I'm all for getting rid of the trash. But if the answer is to keep a QB who is only marginally better, what's the point?

Can a team, realistically, expect to win a SB with Orton?

Draft, draft, draft, draft. If Orton keeps the seat warm, cool. If Orton is considered the answer, they all need to **** their mothers.

I don't see hiring Crennel as any guarantee that Cassel won't be back.

I do see the possibility that the Chiefs will re-sign Orton and bring him in to compete, and that's about as exciting as going to your high school prom with your sister and cousin.

You are ****ed, but no chance you're getting laid.

There are three scenarios

Cassel -v- Orton --> No brainer
Orton -v- all QBs available to us BEFORE Orton walks --> pretty much a no brainer as well
Orton -v- FA Manning and/or draft maneuvers --> different matter entirely, but even then nothing is guaranteed us as we have neither #1 pick in the draft nor exclusive rights to Manning. Depends on what presents itself wrt opportunity and cost.

Forgot to add, even if you're metaphysically certain Orton falls short of SB capability, this team is too good to force through on-the-job training of even a blue chip eventual franchise rookie. Not fair to plug them into a replay of Manning and Aikman's rookie seasons.

Unless Manning is brought in, start Orton and see how far he takes us each year until the franchise draft pick is prepared to call the shots, a la Rodgers.

I'm great with this, but my expectation, based on years of conditioning as a Chiefs fan, is that we're going to go with either Cassel or Orton, coupled with a late round, developmental player and a warm body as a backup.

For whatever reason, this organization refuses to show foresight with respect to the QB position. There's no such thing as a "stop gap" in KC; we call that person our "franchise" QB.

If we have a top 5 defense and Charles returns to form, maybe.

I honestly think we will have a very good offense next season.
