It doesn't help that in Cleveland, he made a mockery of the QB situation. You think Haley put Palko out too long, Romeo relentlessly stuck with Derek Anderson longer when they had a young first round draft pick in Quinn sitting on the bench.

At 60, he pushed to trade up for Quinn and spend over 3 times the "draft value chart" amount to do so. |

Here's a taste of how Romeo handled the QB situation in Cleveland. Quinn was drafted in 2007. Derek Anderson had a terrific year, so without question, he was the undisputed starter. In 2008, Anderson had a concussion in the preseason and played terribly. Halfway through the season, Romeo made the switch to Quinn. Quinn started a few games, played well, and then missed the rest of the season to injury. Anderson goes back in and plays terribly. The next season, Romeo announces Quinn is the starter. After 2 games, he hooks Quinn. He then for some reason decides to stick with Anderson for something like 10 games even though he was playing miserably bad. After finally responding to mass criticism, Romeo does the right thing and makes the QB switch. So if history is any indication... Romeo's handling of the QB situation was downright atrocious. And he gave up on Quinn after only 2 games. |

Quinn was completely clueless whenever he got on the field and Derek Anderson had a really good year in 06 that made things more difficult. Mistakes were made by a first time head coach. Guys like Romeo have lasted in the NFL because they learn from those mistakes. Hopefully, Romeo has indeed done so. |

In that QB decision, Romeo showed frustrating indecision, a stubbornness to stand behind a QB who was clearly the wrong guy, and the impatience to let his young QB try to win games on the field. If Romeo was unpleased with Quinn's progress, then he had 3 years to get rid of the inept QBs coach. He didn't. I get that Romeo can change and he can learn. But I think people are downplaying what a cluster**** he turned the QB situation in Cleveland. And if history is any indication, it doesn't look good at all if we're hoping to develop a QB. |

Yup.
That guy was every bit as bad as Palko. Maybe worse. Acting as if Romeo should have played him more is crazy. |

That's no defense to the decision to start Anderson for 10 games over Quinn when Anderson was playing atrociously bad football.
Isn't our claim that if we have a veteran whose a proven loser, let's see what the young kid's got? And by year 3, there is simply no excuse for the QB not to be ready to play. If he isn't, that's a major indictment on your coaching staff. Neither scenario looks good. |
