Broncos @ Patriots

I know there's a bit of 'over load' on a certain topic, but it's Friday...

First off, I'm not expecting a Broncos' victory on Saturday night. I do think that Denver can be productive against the Patriots' defense, but they're going to need another solid game across the board.

Run with the consistency and passion that they had in the earlier game this season, mix in passing that we saw last week ... and DO NOT turn the ball over. If they do this, then yes Denver can score 21-30 points on this defense.

The big challenge is Denver's defense. They cannot allow Brady to sit back there and pick them apart. They need to mix up their looks and pressure Brady early and often. Denver has the defense that can do what's necessary to win, but it will be by far their toughest challenge of the year.

At the very least, I'm hoping for a close and competitive game. Denver has to force NE into punting situations early...

The non-homer in me says Patriots 34 / Denver 24
The cautiously optimistic fan in me says Denver 30 / Patriots 27

I do think we'll see a better game that many expect. Everything at this point to me is gravy, I never viewed it as a reality at any point in the season.

Mike Ditka had a lot of respect for Landry, and it had nothing to do with the fact that they were both NFL head coaches.

45-0 that ain't shit....

Before 36,034 stunned fans at Washington's Griffith Stadium on December 8, 1940 at the 1940 NFL Championship Game, the Chicago Bears played near-perfect football to defeat the Washington Redskins 73-0 for the league title.

Yes, 73-0.

Ten Chicago players combined to score 11 total touchdowns. The Bears rushed for 381 yards and completed seven of 10 passes for 138 yards.

On defense, the "Monsters of the Midway" played just as effectively, allowing only 22 rushing yards and intercepting eight passes, including three third-quarter touchdown returns.

The 73-point margin was, and still is, the largest margin of victory of any game in NFL history.

"That game never should have happened that way and it probably never will happen that way again," said Redskins quarterback SAMMY BAUGH. "You don't see but one game like that in a lifetime."

"It would be like winning the World Series with four no-hitters," said Bears quarterback SID LUCKMAN of the Bears' flawless performance.

When asked what the score would have been had one of his teammates not dropped a sure touchdown pass early in the game, Baugh replied, "Seventy-three to seven."

After a November loss to the Redskins, Bears owner and coach GEORGE HALAS had brought in Stanford coach CLARK SHAUGHNESSY to help his team perfect the T-formation. It was the birth of the modern-T.

"That day in football was like going from the Ford Model T to the super deluxe Rolls-Royce," said Luckman of the Bears' new offensive system. "Our biggest fear was we were over-prepared. On the train, the boys would play bridge or cards and joke and laugh. This time, you could have heard a pin drop. We were studying our playbooks."

The studying paid off.

On the second play of the game, Chicago running back BILL OSMANSKI took a handoff from Luckman and sped around left end toward the sideline where teammate GEORGE WILSON threw a block, knocking down not one, but two Washington defenders. Osmanski raced to a 68-yard touchdown and gave Chicago a 7-0 lead. The perfectly executed run and block typified the day that lay ahead for both clubs.

The game was also the first in NFL history to be broadcast on network radio. The Mutual Broadcasting System paid $2,500 for the rights to send the game to over 120 stations across the country. Legendary broadcaster RED BARBER was at the microphone.

If the quick punt was on 4th down, then I can somewhat understand catching Denver off guard there a lot more rather than it being 3rd down (remember though, it's 45 to ****ing 10 with 3 min. left.).

You can sit here and argue it all night, but I see it as a dick move and (surprise, surprise) Patsie fans are going to defend it fervently and come off as if I walked up, spit in your face and punched your kid in the side of the head. Belichick's an asshole, this is common knowledge.

Not sure what you wanted them to do.

Doesn't really matter -- haters are gonna hate. Go ahead and hate away if you like. I couldn't care less.

The bottom line is this... the team certainly over-exceeded expectations by advancing and certainly winning a playoff game. NE has too many weapons and Denver doesn't have an offense with great playmakers. They've been good, but they have no short passing game. They don't have good pass catching RB options or TEs. Thomas, Royal are not a 1-2 punch. Any mix of Thomas, Royal and Decker are not a valid 1-2 punch.

And, the defense has a areas of serious upgrade... they've got a lot of nice youth ready to step up, but they're not ready to make a serious playoff push. It was a nice season compared to what the expectations were and despite what we saw, I do think that TT can improve. It will be interesting to see how they address their needs in FA and the draft.

They were lucky as hell this season on many accounts. They "won" a division at 8-8 tied with two other teams. Shoot had Marion Barber not run out of bounds, they lose to the Bears and don't win the division. The division was shit and they did enough to win it and enough weird stuff happend to go thier way for them to win it. I disagree with your take on Tebow. IMO, they are all they're gonna be with TT. College offense with a college QB. While TT was a big part of their season this year, he will hold them back in the future. Just my take...

Possibly, but I think they give it another season with a retooling on offense to see if they can bring in players to open things up.

Everyone points to the QB as being the big problem... I'm not convinced that they have the right weapons for a consistently productive passing attack. I'm not going to debate it all here though... would be pointless since most think that TT has not shot.

I think they can make it work - question is, can they get the right components in there during the off-season. And, yeah - they were fortunate in a few situations, but it wasn't all magical luck. They did win a crappy division, someone had to and they defeated the Steelers. It is what it is... they took some steps forward.
