I don't think Cassel has any value whatsoever as trade bait. Although we might be able to give somebody a 3rd rounder to take him off our hands.
I also would not trade Dorsey. I tend to think that people underestimate his actual value to the defense, and I wonder what kind of player he might be when they finally do acquire the nose tackle they've been missing for so long (if they ever do). And I think the amount it will likely take to move up this year will be prohibitive from the position we are. I know it's unpopular, but I'd move the other direction. And I would still look QB. Because I think the odds are you can find a 2nd tier QB (read: not Luck or Griffin) in the 20s who's just as good as one you can get in the teens. Hell, you might well get the guy you targeted in the teens after you trade down. |

Not saying this is you in any way keg, but we get dozens of people here every year and their answer is always trade down. To trade down you need somebody that teams want to move up for. I don't see that happen often at the #11/12 spot in the draft. Kirkpatrick probably knocked himself down with his mj bust. Maybe Martin. What are we going to get for moving down? At best its a 3rd or 4th. There will be someone there that we want at our spot who will be gone if we trade down that will not be there if we wait. I see Bellichick moving down almost every year and never seeming to pick up anyone.

I am in general far more in favor of trading down than I am in trading up. I don't think it's worth it from the standpoint of the team giving up the picks to move, and that's been in past years. (I'm talking in terms of big jumps up; if we're talking 3-4 picks that's something else). I think this year may end up being the most expensive ever in terms of moving up, into top-5 territory, and I don't think a move from our position is very likely or worth what it will take. I don't know how much I agree or disagree with Pioli in general, but I do not believe that any one player, even a franchise quarterback, is worth the number of other players that I think it will take this year.
As far as the possibility of trading down, fine, stay put and draft a quarterback there. I have no problem with that. I think you're going to have to pick in the first two picks to get the Luck/Griffin, and I don't think we have what it takes to get there or that should spend it if we did. I do think it would be worth it to pick a second tier quarterback, whoever that might be. Let's say we get this year's equivalent of Mark Sanchez at the spot he should have been taken, that is to say somewhere between 10 and 25. Or trade down and take the next one later in the round, whoever this year's equivalent of Josh Freeman is. That's still a player with a fair chance of developing into the quarterback that you want, certainly (IMO...) a better alternative than trading for the next Matt Cassel or hoping that a low round pick blossoms into the next Tom Brady. All that said, I doubt we go QB... Last edited by keg in kc; 01-17-2012 at 06:57 PM.. |

I don't see any QBs that would not be a reach in round one beyond Luck/RG3.

In the draft take the following: 1st: Peter Konz - C Wisconsin - Solidify the Center of the line 2nd: Markelle Martin - S Oklahoma State - Fill in for the junk Chiefs dumped above 3rd: Doug Martin - RB Boise State - Takes Jones Carries 4th: Nick Foles - QB Arizona - Orton is 1st string and let Stanzi and Foles battle it out 5th: LaDarius Green - TE Lafayette - Come on you know a TE is going to be taken 6th: Ryan Martin - OT Colorado - Right Tackle taken here 7th: Max Gruder - ILB Pittsburgh. - Special teams On to Free Agent signings: I gathered this information here http://www.footballsfuture.com/2012/fa/dl.html NT - Paul Soliai - currently with Miami. 28yrs old 6'4 355 lbs TE - Visanthe Shiancoe - Currently with Minn. Need a target to give Moeaki some rest. OT - Unknown but a stop sign is better then Richardson Other signings: Look for some special team players that might have to be replaced since there could have been some dumped from the above cuts. Note: This is all Conservative, no trade up for a QB which I just don't think the Chiefs can or will do. Center is greatly needed to support a run game and Safety got exposed all year with no Eric Berry. I am unsure if these players will actually be there in those rounds but I used the http://drafttek.com/new%20simulator/ and they were all within 2 to 3 picks of KC. The simulator had the Chiefs at #10 though so I think it is a bit older. The FA thoughts were this. I didn't follow Soliai out of Miami but figured 355lbs of meat should at least look like a NT that the Chiefs haven't had. Swap him out with Powe for a breather. Still don't understand why Powe wasn't used more just to see what he had. The whole Haley thing is just disturbing on why players were and weren't played. Just my .10 Cents |

Cut Cassel
Orton walks (we get a compensation pick) then: A) trade player (Bowe, Carr, Dorsey) and 2012 1st to move up and take Luck/RGIII/Bradford; Luck/RGIII/Bradford start in 2012 B) trade 2012 2nd round pick for Mallet; Mallet starts in 2012 B) trade down in 2012 for 2013 pick (to be used on QB); Stanzi starts 2012 |

I hope the Chiefs make a run at G. Olsen or J. Finley.

If I wasn't trading up to get one of the top two qbs, I'd probably sit where I was or trade back if someone would be willing. In free agency, I'd go hard after Soliai and Carl Nicks, thus moving Hudson to C. Draft the best RT in round 2. Get depth everywhere I can. |
