I don't remember the particular play you are talking about last night but if a player with control of the ball would fall and go sliding, then yes that is a travel. If there is a loose ball and they run and dive on it gaining possession they can slide as far as they want without the above violations.
Yeah, the guy had the ball and was dribbling. Then when trying to stop, slid several feet and fell down while holding the ball. It seemed like it should be traveling to me, but maybe there's some facet of the rule that allows it.
